It's not reusing coast, I think it pre-dates COAST on the PC, see the 1994 date - COAST was used in Mac before then but wasn't used on PC until 1995 and i430FX. Also see the width, 105mm at the connector, where COAST was min 110mm.

A bit concerned about the "P54C 3.3V" bit - makes me suspect I can't use this module if I have a P5 5V installed...

If you wanna go somewhat fast on the VLB board you might have to pull half the cache, some slugs in it.

Well, it's not that common with this original blue Intel heatsink, at least. I've seen them for sale only once or twice in the last years.
Besides that it's really just a regular 486DX2-66 (but a nice one 😀).

yeah, Grabbed this one at 100 USD which isnt the craziest price I have paid for a rare CPU, normally see these going for 150 odd sometimes higher.

I bought one about three years ago for 5,60 EUR incl. shipping in the bay. Like all slower ones I have which all stayed below 7 EUR.

By that time itll be Core2 and GTX 200/400 that will be silly expensive, and following that Sandybridge and GTX 500/600.

On a side note I'm selling some things on eBay these days at decent prices, that is about half of what these items with absurd long-term high prices try to sell for and lower than similar items recently sold. And I make a point of testing all the hardware and giving the buyer a video from it so everyone is happy, this takes real time. Well, I still get angry messages from potential buyers telling me that I should basically give them the hardware for free blablabla and that shipping costs are too high...it's insane, I don't make up shipping costs or eBay fees. Sometimes this makes me want to just throw the hardware away and not deal with that.

You are right, there aren't many and mostly slower ones.
Still these prices are crazy for a Socket 423 CPU, imho.

People are like that. Each and every day. Sadly.
You can offer things for very low prices (not just computer hardware) and they still try to make a bargain for every cent of it. If you don't follow you won't sell.
But throwing away still usable things also can't be the solution...

Since this thread is about bought (retro) hardware I can add this:

The 5k86-P90 was on my wanted list for a long time. I missed one only some weeks ago (was sold within minutes) but this time luck was on my side.
As a nice addition it came with a Pentium MMX Overdrive which aren't seen that often, too.
Unfortunately the overdrive has a somewhat broken heatsink and a missing fan but it still works.
Since it doesn't throttle without a fan this doesn't need any workaround (separate cooling provided).
In the worst case a socket 3 overdrive's fan works like a charm on it.

P60 non-goldcap edition. Still on the way. Hope it arrives in one piece.

Looks like someone has swapped motherboards though....the Altos 900 should have an EISA-based Acer M5 board rather than the ISA-based M3 ( http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/acer/mb/acm3.htm )

Maybe submit a pic of your ALI cpu board to The Retro Web as they don't have that one for the M3 ( https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/acer-m3 )
