Picked up a Roland SC-88 w/ Japanese manual earlier for 4100 yen at a store down the street.
Didn't even need to buy a USB-MIDI adapter for it as it turns out my Roland A-500S usb midi keyboard can be switched to act as an interface.

One thing it was missing was the original disc for it, which apparently contained sample midis (and more?). Anyone have a copy?

4100 yen... what a steal! 😀

Don't have the disc either, but you can at least find the MIDIs here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/687288/SC88FactoryMIDIs.zip

@keropi: Well it's a Terratec card and usually their drivers aren't the most robust overall 😀

I'm flush with Christmas cash right now, so maybe it will be my turn to buy an SCC-1, soon. I have to get one before the prices hit $500. 🤣

One went recently for $10 - clearly the seller didn't know what this was...

The same place I got my sc-88 from has a Yamaha MU80 for 5580 yen. Any real point in owning one for retrogaming? I hear FF7 has XG sound, but is that it?
Keeping an eye out for an MT32/CM64L etc, but I think they are too old for the place (a music instrument store) and maybe munt is good enough anyways.

Speaking of which, has no one ever attempted dumping & emulating a Sound Canvas? Seems like it would be up MESS' alley.

Both FF7 and FF8 used an format that had XG.
FF7 has 4 MIDI types:
GM
AWE
YGM
XG

Rolled the dice on this MPU-IPC. First time I have seen one and I was able to get it for $50. The seller accepted my offer to change it from an auction to a BIN. I will test it in January. 😎

And then pair it with an MT-32 and try to flip it for $250 in February?
