Bought 5 ThinkPad T61 notebooks today. Will set them up for LAN parties when I am in NL in September. 😀

I still use this as my main laptop. With the SATA2 bios hack, upgraded wireless Nic, Samsung SSD and 8GB, this thing runs Windows 10 without issue. Also have the T430. Love these ThinkPads!

Got a thinkpad collection myself, two 365XD, two 380D, 755c, 701c, 600 E or D, R50, T43P (project), T60P with ips, two T61, W500, T410, T420, and two W520. My main W520 has two 2TB drives, a 64gb msata for swap file, 16gb of 1866 ddr3 (well above spec), Quadro 2000m, and a i7 2920xm. Even the T420 is modded and gets over 10 hours of battery life despite using an i7 quad. The T60P has a msata raid in place of a normal ssd just for kicks. Fairly certain by now everyone hates me 🤣.

On a far away planet reading your posts in the year 10,191.

I have a huge Thinkpad collection (newest would be the T61's, oldest 701s).

Bought some lovely stuff for my new build 😀

A very nice AT case, looks almost unused:

And a Asus Socket 7 mobo:

Obviously, the case restricts CPU speed to be below 100MHz 😁

Got this motherboard from Chaintech model 6BTA2, 440BX chipset but with a Yamaha 724B onboard 😀 .
Seems a bit unstable (maibe the caps, G-Cap brand) but works and the onboard 724B works in dos just like the pci version with sb-link.

Also came in the bundle a Celeron 300A as bonus, seems the ones that did monster overclocks back in the day.

More tests needed and try to find latest bios and manual...

In my case, my favourite ThinkPad (a 600) literally went bang a few days ago. It still works, but it only charges the battery to 70-ish %, and gets ridiculously hot whilst doing so. Sad, because I used that laptop to pass my exams this year!

Canopus Spectra 8800 (Geforce 2 Ultra) - Not often you find Geforce 2 Ultra cards (as Geforce 3 replaced it very quickly) and this card from Canopus is great

MSI Geforce TI-4800 The AGP 8x version of the Ti-4600. The cooler on this MSI card is effective compared to my other TI-4600 card from Albatron, making it a winner.

ASUS V9900 Geforce FX5800 - CIB Geforce FX5800 cards are rare, and even more rare complete in box. This is the normal version, unfortunately not the Ultra, but the cooler is just as noisy (it's extreme!)

My 10$ Sound Blaster 1.0 (CT-1320A) arrived today.

I must say that the card is in absolutely perfect condition. Not a sign of use whatsoever after I removed dust.

It was manufactured in 1989 and its serial number is 004891. I have already tested it with my 386-3 and it works as supposed to.

I know It's just a noise blaster, but I really do enjoy having the card that is almost 30 years and is the first SB, hard to get nowadays.

A bit of a sad story here.

Got this Sony Multiscan 100SX for my Pentium-166 build:

8f201fdf5fb9162977b5d3ccf4c01a564309ee9a.JPG

However, when I brought it home, it turned out to be dead. On my first attempt to power it up, it produced a series of crackling sounds (as if a fan had something stuck inside of it) and then just died. It produces a barely audible "click" every time I try to turn it on, the tube also produces a "bzzz" when I plug it into an outlet, but other than that — nothing. No lights, no activity.

I never repaired a screen, and you can probably tell by the way I "expertly" describe my troubleshooting process that I really know nothing about electronics. So I am definitely not going to try and go inside it.

On the bright side — it was free (only spent 4 bucks on taxi), and it's actually the first time I got something that didn't work.

That sounds very similar to what happened to a monitor I once had that got water inside which caused a short-circuit. That's the sound of the high voltage parts blowing up. It's probably just one transistor or diode bridge and a couple other components nearby, but it's already tough to fix even if you're into electronics, let alone if you don't have any experience.

Oh, well. Even though it's a 1996 or 1997 model, it's really not rare where I live and can be sourced for 5-10 bucks easily. Just feeling a bit disappointed here 😀
