I'm hungry now. 🙁

Anyway, back on topic, I just bought this guy for my IBM eduquest: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CMYIRMO/ … 0?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I don't usually consider Amazon, but $32 shipped is a damn sight better than the $75+shipping that cockwomble on ebay wants. I'm standing on the precipice of adding a token ring segment to my network.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Ah, brings back memories. Are you going to go the whole hog with ICS cables & MAU, or will you be using RJ45 to keep wiring manageable?

Well, I have a box of type 1 cables, AND the rj45 adapters, so it can go either way. At least one will be used, as the linked card only had the 9-pin connection. I have the IBM 8228 MAU, some pci and isa cards, and a buttload of unanswered questions. I'm just going to slap it all together and hope I can finger it out from there. I heard about getting a special device to manually reset the MAU and I can probably jury-rig something together if need be.

I will fully admit we are damn spoiled by modern ethernet.

Last time I worked with that stuff (but that was quite a while ago...) "it just worked", using ICS/Type 1 cables and that same 8228, although I was using slightly more modern Madge PCI 16/4 cards, I could just configure layer 3 and higher and that was pretty much it. But I don't even remember which OS I was using then, let alone the rest of the software situation.

More stuff for the collection. 4 new ASUS cards to accompany my V8200. Especially like the V8460 and its colors - also extremely heavy.

2 Pentium Pro 200mhz 256kb, Gigabyte GA-686DX, 192mb EDO ram.

Good:
- Interchangeable RTC
- All japanese caps
- 6 SIMM slots
- Can be overclocked up to 266mhz
- ATX with USB

Bad:
- 60-66 FSB only, unless I'll find some undocumented options for PLL.
- Not sure if Pentium Pro 1mb is supported.

P.S.

My graphics card arrived today. Not a bad card for 20 euros including shipping. Now I almost have all the parts for my next build.

I have the single CPU vesion GA-686NX, solid board. Yours looks very similar.
Shame it has the RTC chip and not regular CR2032 battery like Intel boards for example. I don't think 66 MHz is a negative... are there even i440FX boards that can do more? Also most (if not all) PPro tops out at 233 or 240 MHz. 266 is very hard to reach.

Personally, I see real problem only with soldered on board RTC chips. This board have socketed RTC and those are easy to modify/replace.

Some have 75mhz FSB option for early 150mhz models (75x2)

266 is very hard to reach.

Not with liquid nitrogen 😀

Great find on the Ti4600.

The heatsink on the other ASUS model V8460 Ultra is pretty goofy looking
