Cant't find a better pic for now so sorry for the Dutch site 😀 It's only the PC though.
I am cleaning it so it's completely disassembled:

Like this but with 2 bays.

Will post a real pic the the retro-activity thread when it's clean. It belonged to a smoker it seems 🙁

That's interesting, thanks for the explanation. I knew there were "slocket 8s" but I figured they came later when P2 boards were getting common & a lot of people were upgrading.

I guess I didn't realize Slot 1 debuted before 440LX, I assumed they were the same 'new platform' and came out together. ALR's board design makes way more sense in that context.

Just won an Abit Guru Panel (5.25" bay device) on Ebay.. surprisingly I was the only bidder and won it at the minimum bid of $11.. haha. I love those kinds of auctions. It must have helped that the seller misspelled it. 🤣 It was just what I was looking for.. tried to find one for months. I'll be hooking it up to my Abit AW9D-MAX in my X1950XTX Crossfire build. It's gonna be sweeeet. 😎

Ugh, smokers' hardware 🙁

But is that a Packard Bell with MSI MS-6168 board? If so, congrats 😀

I'd be very interested in which case it is in if not in the Spheris II case in the pics (either 1 5.25" bay with front plate on, or 3 with the plate off). 2 bays sounds like Squarius II, the same one I have - but I wasn't aware this board was sold in that case...

I will post some pics this evening.
Is the board something special?
Yesterday I put in 256mb RAM instead of the original 64MB
I think it's still stock or close to stock.
The only thing I noticed,is the long POST/PB screen.

Buying a 3GB HD 7970 for $40. Figure it's about as old as you can get for a GPU and still play modern games competently. Replacing a super out of driver support HD 6970 2gb in a kid's Phenom ii x6 rig.

Main pc: Asus ROG 17. R9 5900HX, RTX 3070m, 16gb ddr4 3200, 1tb NVME.
Retro PC: Soyo P4S Dragon, 3gb ddr 266, 120gb Maxtor, Geforce Fx 5950 Ultra, SB Live! 5.1

A bit of regret and wonder over the weekend.

I visited an estate sale and picked up an Amiga 1000 (will post photos later) and it works. Or rather, boots to the screen asking for a workbench disk. I am not sure what to do with it. The case needs some cleaning, but I might simply resell it. I want to do more with it, though information is hard to find. Everyone seems to have the 500, 1200, or 2000 which boot from ROM...

Unnamed: 486DX4 @ 120MHz, 16MB, 2GB, 2MB VGA, SBPro 2.0, DOS/W3.11, W95
PC-65:P3 @ 800MHz x2, 512MB, 128GB SSD, Voodoo3, SB Live!, Win98SE

The Amiga 1000 was the precursor to the more popular models and was marketed more as a business machine. So this might not be the best gaming machine or something but it has its charme and can be seen as a nice collectors item in its own right.

Considering I was there in 1985 to pick up my first Amiga 1000 here in the U.S. it absolutely was NOT marketed as a business machine. Every sales center I walked into in my area always promoted its graphics, sound and multimedia capabilities first and foremost for creativity and entertainment use. Not once did you here the sales centers say, "This is great for business." They knew what they were selling and what their target market was. Now, the Amiga 2000 and later models definitely diversified for their target audience, but the 1000 was made to impress the creative and gaming crowd and is why many of the big game companies like EA and Activision fully supported and endorsed the platform. Remember, Commodore wanted the same success for the Amiga as their C64 was enjoying.

Well, it's one of just two boards with Voodoo 3 onboard, and the rev.2.0 is pretty much the ideal BX uATX board, apart from lack of AGP (because they connected the V3 to AGP, not PCI which would have been much better).

That could be a few error messages that get splashed-over. Check if HDD & FDD settings are correct, if not correcting them will speed things up. If you want more options you can get the regular retail MSI BIOS for it, but that's AMI, not Award (and some people have strong opinions on that matter). Mine will boot at 133MHz, but isn't completely stable unfortunately.

Beautiful MS-6168 rev 2.0 in all its glory.

Take a good look at the two caps next to the slot 1 obscured by the ATX power cable on this photo. They almost always fail on these boards (the rest of the big caps are just as bad, but apparently are less heavily loaded). Be prepared to replace or do so pre-emptively.
