No, that looks more like a socket 3 to me.

Super socket 7 boards usually have an AGP slot and include options for >66MHz FSB.

Nah, it's perfectly straight. The label is just wrapped this way. It's a lithium battery probably that's why it didn't leaked all over this sweet VLB motherboard causing all sort of nasty corrosion. I will unsolder it anyway. I will probably sell this motherboard soon because VLB and 486 is not really something I'm interested in (or rather because I don't want to have an excuse for buying VLB cards).

Got another AT case today. If I didn't know better, I'd say it was NOS. But there are a few signs that give away the fact that it was probably used briefly like the hole drilled for the HDD LED (unless it was factory? surely not..)

I was specifically after a case to put a 386 in, so the case badge is perfect.

those tadrian batteries are much more problem free - they have extremely long lifespan (10-40 years).

Nice, an AWE64 Gold! That's about €100 on its own right there! I'm still looking to replace my own Value one with a Gold one.

Finally, I managed to get a decent set of speakers! I got them cheap but they were in a filthy state. Bit of elbow grease and i think they turned out pretty nice. They sound great too!

I've pretty much given up on finding quality retro speakers. Heck, most PC speakers back in the day were absolutely atrocious to start with and 25 years won't have improved the sound. I had Cambridge Soundworks 2.1 speakers back in 1999 ('don't let the name confuse you: these were surround speakers with a sub) which were pretty much top end and they don't sound all that impressive today. My Z680 5.1 speakers I bought in early 2003 and I'm still using them today, 16 years later! I think I just need to find some affordable retro-looking book case speakers instead. Edifier has some really nice ones. I mean, from 1996-1999 I used an old Pioneer amplifier with actual hifi speakers and it worked really well.

The Millennium II PCI is just as cool for me as AWE64 Gold, great catch.

Well since I turned on the computer and could see video, I guess it works as well.

Not exactly today, but some days ago…

I bought this for 1 Euro on eBay… nobody else was bidding (huh).

AWE64 Gold box (my AWE64 Gold was missing box), and inside I found 2 CDs, a gameport to midi cable (which wasn't mentioned in the description) and rather uninteresting CT4170 (still in a brand new condition) which was listed as AWE64 Gold (of course I knew it wasn't Gold - but I was bidding on the box! 😁) and some sort of fax the original buyer received from Creative Labs (that's kind of interesting).

Kitty wasn't in the box BTW...

I have the CT4170 in my Socket 7 machine, and the CQM synth is crappy. Wish I can redirect the CQM to an external MIDI device that contains a real OPL3 chip, or swap it with an ESS AudioDrive ES1688F card.

Talk of playing MP3s on a slow machine prompted me to go looking to see if it would be viable.

I ended up ordering this card - a Zefiro ZA2. And although it doesn't do MP3, it does do MP2. There were somewhere in the neighborhood of 3000 of these cards made.

Ended up buying it from the company's web page that was selling it instead of eBay as it was a bit cheaper to buy direct.
