everything else in the 'lot' was absolutely pointless/worthless. LCD PCBs cut in half, a laptop hard drive's PCB and some FPC cables all snipped into bits for some reason. 😁

Yep, a very nice surprise 😀 I wasn't going to pay a premium price for this upgrade chip since I've already got 486 boards that have a voltage regulator, but it's nice to see one in operation and the kind of performance boost it gives even to slower systems.

There is nothing “wrong” with that chipset generation , it just lacks features and caches only a quarter of the RAM of the later generation G (128MB vs. 512MB).

Is the way to identify this by looking at the letter at the end of the big string of numbers and letters just above "Taiwan"?

Yes, but you can derive it from the ASUS revision, also.

Sound Card/Wavetable Board arrived today. From reading i think this card come out of an IBM machine.

S-16FP/L Crystal CS4236 Sound card & S-W1/C Daughterboard with Crystal CS9233 Synth.

IS the CS4236 the "broken" Crystal card?

Ah damn... that's the only Crystal chip I have in my collection 😆 What exactly is wrong with it?

Hups...I agreed on an acceptable price for 3 boxes with more than 30 kg in total... 😒 There was at least one interesting card in each, therefore I will take only some few items and sell the remaining parts again asap. 1 sellers pic of each box...

Boxes arrived, 1st one processed. What I am going to keep for the 1st run..dont think it needs to be commented. One of the NICs is a ISA 100 MBit!

Picked up my ASI 286 PC today. Someone at Hermes logistics did have a go at several attempts to answer the question “How far can one throw a box with a computer inside?”

Fortunately the seller did a good job at packing the system, the guys at handling did only punch through two of three layers of plastic air cushions. But he also did a good job of not displaying or mentioning the damn Varta battery leaking all over the place (had to grind the corrosion down with a Dremel to get the board out of the case).

Apart from that, some pretty interesting components.

(I will switch to the retro activities thread for repairs … right now the board is in the dish washer after ethanoic acid treatment …)
