Firstly, hello to everyone, I finally decided to stop lurking the forums and actually make an account and get some retro hardware to play with 😀

Welcome.

Bought this a few days ago and it arrived today, another rarer game for my PC-50X Console family collection -

dDwbrYLl.jpg

The lack of information on these Consoles means I ended up accidentally getting the version with the joystick port on the back of the cartridge. Just my luck, I don't actually have a joystick to plug into it and the game seems to require a separate (digital?) controller and not the Console's built-in analogue controllers which do absolutely notihing.

I'll have to keep an eye out for a spare controller now.

Let's get some Japanese retro computing up in here'!

Won a very nice condition PC9821-CE2 on YA, for a decent price. Certainly cheap enough to makeup for the crippling shipping fees.

I didn't *need* it but a tiny part of me allways wanted to own atleast one Japanese home computer and since these are somewhat close to our old MS-DOS machines here, I thought what better machine?

I had looked out for a while, and this just arrived on my desk.

Soon you'll be jamming out like that guy on the box.

So when I sum all the costs, I got all this for around 70-75 USD, and if I can make a single working PC from all this it could be a nice non-3d gaming rig 😀

Welcome!
That's a great haul you got there!

Just one little thing - FSP power supplies from that era tend to have really bad caps, so don't be surprised if you start having stability issues. Finding replacements isn't hard though, socket 7 isn't power hungry.

My builds!
The FireStarter 2.0 - The wooden K5
The Underdog - The budget K6
The Voodoo powerhouse - The power-hungry K7
The troll PC - The Socket 423 Pentium 4

Not a Pinnacle, but I bought this reportedly non-working SB16 for cheap.

Will try to find out what's wrong with it. If not then I am going to desolder/reuse the CT1784A and use the card on my on-wall display with different sound cards.

Just won this TERRATEC EWS64 L/XL Audio System https://www.ebay.com/itm/Terratec-EWS64-L-XL- … ordt=true&rt=nc

I hope I did not pay way too much, but i really wanted it, even tough i dont know much about it x)
I'm thinking of building a ss7 system with this, SB Audigy 2 ZS, a K6-2+@ 500-600mhz, Voodoo 5 AGP, SCSI CD-rom and HDD in a AT case with a ATX PSU. And outside a Model M, Microsoft mouse, SC-88VL and Nokia 21" CRT screen ^^

So, an actual excuse to shop some socket 4 goodness .. B-)

I have the other problem.. no socket 4 board but have some socket 4 CPUs.

Same problem here 🤣

Me too ! Compaq Soc 4 board died a while ago and have not figured out what is wrong 🙁 Do have the P-60 from it 😀

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

I'm pathetically fanatic for soundcards with memory slots and EWS64XL always stands almost at the top of my list.

Yeah. Every company has its ups and downs. ECS actually made a decent Socket 8 board. The P6FX1-A.

An envious haul, those ECS boards look top notch, what a difference a few years makes.

@Hanamichi

M7MIA I don't know her. I use to search motherboards I remembering have been reviewed on Greek magazines back to the day.

Where did you find them boxed? I only search on eBay.

That's the only board that supports DDR memory and retains an isa slot for Socket A.

A mixture of places including eBay UK/US but for some reason in the UK we keep the motherboard boxes but throw the rest 🤣 so there are some good finds to be had.

I'm liking the quality of JDM PIII AOpen boards as well.

I can't believe how good the Pinnacle sounds it is ridiculous. No pops, hum, just great sound. It could be an Arcam cd player in disguise.

FWIW I managed to get the mixer and digital input/output working in DOS by initializing in W98 and then rebooting to DOS from W98 start menu. Obviously no FM but MIDI might be possible.

Now you're talking 😁
9821 should be easily upgradeable. It does look like a Powermac 7200

Got another H98 on Yahoo to replace my dead one. This thing cost a few pennies new.

I'm excited, anxious, worried... I bought 2 damaged voodoo 2 12mb cards - a few bent/broken chip pins going to solder pads. Gonna give them my best to repair.

Should arrive within the week.

In such scenarios, where chips' pins are bent like that, what's the best approach and tools to fix it? (I have few cards with such damage in storage, too)

Use a very sharp razor or a thin x-acto knife to separate the legs, and do not be anal about bending them to proper shape, just separate them. Trying to fix it cosmetically almost invariably results in broken legs. I fixed half a dozen such cards believe me I know. It's a pain in the ass to resolder broken legs, almost impossible if they break at the plastic packaging side.

Thanks for the tip, any idea what to look for if I need to get another PSU ? 20A on 5v with modern PSUs seems quite rare (750W+ high end units and similar have it), so how low can I go ?
Or even better, if anyone recently put up together a s7 build with a brand new PSU from the shop, don't hesitate to let me know what you are using.

My main concern is to minimize the chance of PSU taking everything with it if it dies 😉

This IBM 3270 PC (aka IBM 5271). Condition is not perfect, but it's pretty much complete - missing a PC speaker, some screws and ribbon cables... although it will make a good repair/restoration video for a youtube channel I'm thinking about...
