I didn't expected this PC20-III to be in such good shape! A bit of cleaning and it will look almost new.

Apparently all three in working condition, although the lowest one emits funny smells when powered on...

What's the story with that bottom one? I've never seen a PC like that in my life. I'd love a case like that though. So cool with the bright Mhz readout on the front.

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.

Hi everyone, happy to finally have something to share in my first post here! Today the CD-R drive for my current project arrived. It is MITSUMI CR-2600TE from 1997, and I got it in a box with manuals etc.

I think you have the same optical drive as me on one of my retro desktops. Although the optical drive I have has a rectangle button instead of an oval one like you have, but still.

Yep, most of the drives from Mitsumi that I saw had such rectangle button, but I never saw a recorder with rectangle button. It seems like Mitsumi did not use unified look for their drives in that era. I would love to have an additional drive with oval-button just for reading CD's to match this recorder, but it probably never existed.

Are you sure that's a MHz display and not a infrared receiver like the ones that were found on some Pentium cases?

Going to say the same thing on that one. The turbo display is a bit taller, however, they shrank the LED display for the turbo speed.

To be honest, I don't know what company the CD drive I have is from. I just said that your's looks a bit similar to mine. I don't think that always has to do with its manufacturer.

After a ps/2 model 30 (286) i got something even older now:
Some XT Clone, this (and the ps/2) is far before "my era" but it was a good opportunity. Seems to be fitted with a hercules card. Maybe i'll try an EGA card as it is just gathering dust. Anyway, i diddn't know that this old stuiff isn't vga(plug) compatible.

Pretty cool, solid case. I think there was a tower version too.

Not my style though. Already reserved by some guy from Holland who spotted it on the photo :]
Inside is this sweet Biostar motherboard (he buys it along with the case).

Came home from almost two weeks on the road to find this on the doormat:
full.jpg

Yep, that's 5 cards stuck together with masking tape - and absolutely no other protection - into a 'parcel' that would fit through the letterbox 😦

Worst part is that I only paid for two cards, but seller proudly told me he'd included the rest as no one else was interested. Two cards could have been safely packed to fit through the letterbox...

Fortunately lady luck - and no doubt several anonymous but very much appreciated postal workers - shined on me, after removing all the tape, this was inside:

full.jpg

Two nice-ish Matrox cards, a potentially useful Promise ATA-100 adapter and a non-PnP NE2000 clone - but the reason I bought this was of course the 3Com 3C579-TP EISA NIC. A 100MbE card like the 3C597-TX would have been even nicer, but any decent EISA NIC is quickly becoming unobtainium these days, so sourcing this locally for a reasonable price would have made me extremely happy if it had been well-packed. For now though I need to test the beast as I'm not that confident about it or any of these other cards for some reason, despite the lack of visible damage or missing components...

Went to RE-PC today and found a perfectly clean ti500. I hope that it works. I also got a Vortex2, YMF724, and an ESS ISA sound card.

It works! but the fan is loud as heck.

Nice XT - seems like it also came with an add-on real time clock. Just desolder that barrel battery.

Looks like should be a kit with external cd-rom drive.

Hi. Do you still have this one with CD-ROM interface?

I'm very happy the chance I took on a Radeon 9800 Pro has paid off and it is in excellent working condition. Been messing with it all night, its so much faster on my 3700+ than my P4 3.4Ghz it makes me want to consider getting a motherboard and building a system around the 3700+. Its currently in a Fragbox which I don't use that often.

Anyways I'm happy to have a working 9800 Pro finally.

Additionally I picked up that non retro 780ti to replace my Gtx 580 in my q9650 but it seems like the CPU is the limiting factor here as I'm not seeing much of an increase at all between the 2 GPUs. I mean I guess it's only 6 years old and should probably be paired with an i7 of some sort. Well maybe another project for a later date.

S754 is awesome, I have a 3700+ with a 1950pro. Amazing single core PC.

Nice! I actually bought a New old stock XT from a german ebay seller years ago, and it came in the exact same case. I wonder it there's a secret stash of these cases hidden somewhere in Germany 🤣

Unfortunately the PSU in mine blew a few months ago so I sold the case as it seemed hard to source a replacement PSU.

I'd suspect there are some issues with that P4. While it is true the athlon is much better, that P4 still shouldn't bottleneck a Radeon 9800 Pro.

I'm not sure its under performing I get 300 FPS in QUake 3 with maxed settings at 1024X768. 3dMark2001SE though comes out a few thousand points in favor of the 3700+.

Edit: Also just realized I was running the Athlon in Windows XP , so that right there is worth a couple thousand points. It's probably all how it should be.
