I have a server case I want to put some floppy and optical drives in, but I don't have long enough cables to reach where I want the drives to go. So I ordered some ribbon cables and connectors from China, so I can make my own 😀

There's two metres of floppy cable and two metres of IDE cable so that should be more than enough 😀

I also have one of those (somewhere). Pretty expensive even today, but luckily I traded some 3dfx stuff for it. Very rare card that 3GB 580, good buy.

I think the total for mine was $90 and some change after shipping. So still pricey but not that bad. I was looking for one for < $100, this qualifies.. barely.

Also, it's missing a battery. Looking at this layout I assume I can just ask my friend to desolder a CR2032 holder from one of my other boards and just solder it here, right?

My spidey sense tells me there might be a Dallas clock chip with integrated battery on board.

All hail the Great Capacitor Brand Finder

Actually it seems that the battery was clipped off. Most likely a barrel going by the position of the terminals.

I've just bought strange sound card for my GUS collection.
It look's almost the same as Kouwell Virtuoso but it has different PCB colour and plugs...
Is it Kouwell Virtuoso clone? Or different revision? AFAIK olny one photo of Virtuoso is known.

Recently i got my Asus ct-479 adapter with pentium M 740. I only had one Asus p4c800 board for it so i wanted a spare.

Found 3 boards in one ad: 2x p4p800se and 1x p4p800, they came with p4 3ghz 800/1m and 1,5gb ddr. Also 3 agp cards came with them: Ati 9550, 9600pro and a fx5600xt

p4p800 SE both came with box, cables and manual so that's nice.

Tested all 3 boards quickly with a fresh install of Windows XP and they all installed fine. Not bad for 25 euro + 7 euro total (bought local). Got my s478 covered!

asus tx97-e, 233mmx, voodoo1, s3 virge ,sb16
asus p5a, k6-3+ @ 550mhz, voodoo2 12mb sli, gf2 gts, awe32
asus p3b-f, p3-700, voodoo3 3500TV agp, awe64
asus tusl2-c, p3-S 1,4ghz, voodoo5 5500, live!
asus a7n8x DL, barton cpu, 6800ultra, Voodoo3 pci, audigy1

Looks like a Primax card. They make green gravis clones.

Nope... that's definitely not a Primax...

This is Primax SoundStorm Wave SOUND-M16B:

And this is oraz Primax SoundStorm Wave SOUND-M16C Rev 0.1
https://retrosoundcards.files.wordpress.com/2 … imax1bezpam.jpg

So both looks different.

AFAIK all gus clones were green. The only known by me exception is Kouwell Virtuoso - which is "brown":

And my card looks almost exactly the same with two differences I've mentione... Even texts on PCB are situated in the same places... that's why I'm wondering wether this is Virtuoso Clone or Virtuoso itself but in different revision.

And memory chips. Have you card place for big DIL chip pins?

No... those small chips on top-left corner are directly on PCB - so this is third difference...
In a few days card will be at my place - so I'll take a better photos.

I bought an IBM 5150 from Craigslist this weekend. In lieu of images I made a video: https://youtu.be/RWKZfX8xXTQ

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Nice find! I made some (hopefully) helpful comments on your YouTube video...

By the way I like your YouTube channel picture of Dennis Nedry...I actually have a Silicon Graphics Crimson decked out with RealityEngine boards exactly like the one sitting next to his desk in the movie.

^^ with CMS chips too! Grats.

So it's Sound Blaster 1.0 - am I right?
Without CMS chips that would be SB 1.5?
