So if i wanted to just give away a box of goods at the cost of shipping, could i do that here? Have a ton of stuff from rescued "scrap gold" lots that i have no place to store

The rules would say no, but there are similar precedents that have happened before and trading probably happens privately between users. Amibay is probably best as it's geared up for such transactions.

Check out my blog and YouTube channel for thoughts, articles, system profiles, and tips.

Graphics madness part 26

Glorious haul (aside from the GeForce FX abomination..) but be careful with the orchid, one of the labeled chips seem to be partially out of socket, make sure to push that into place before trying it and potentially causing damage.

Which GF FX? I suppose you meant the FX5600? What's so abominating about it? Isn't it like some FX variant of GF4MX?

Whats missing in your collections?

Boot screen looks bad but its weak photo, colours are ok in BIOS. Bad luck that you cards got problems. Long time not own bad ISA card.

FX looks good too for first test 😀

I have a FIC PT-2003, it's a pretty good and fast 430FX board. The only problem I had with it is that I never managed to get Pipeline Burst cache modules to work with it, they are not even detected. Only the async cache module that came with the board works properly.

However, other people managed to get PB cache modules working with this board, so maybe it depends on the revision number.

2x 32MB EDO-RAM Sticks. With this, the P166MMX build is complete.

med_gallery_60983_11505_118128.jpgRadeon 9800PRO 128MB. I didn't realize it had custom copper heatsinks installed on the RAM when I bought it, it's possibly the heaviest AGP card I've ever had. Not sure how to use this; I'll have to decide between this, a Radeon 9600XT or a Radeon 8500 for my Tualatin build.

I really love to see when people get pre-AGP/ATX hardware. Good catch everyone. 😜
Shure Voodoo3's are nice, cool and all that.
It is just wonderfull to see older hardware gets rescued from scrappers too.

Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.

Picked up some 32mb EDO 50ns SIMMS for my two Pentium 1 machines. They both have 512k of cache, so 64mb per system should be perfect.

Main pc: Asus ROG 17. R9 5900HX, RTX 3070m, 16gb ddr4 3200, 1tb NVME.
Retro PC: Soyo P4S Dragon, 3gb ddr 266, 120gb Maxtor, Geforce Fx 5950 Ultra, SB Live! 5.1

That looks like an EPROM right there in the bottom left. I hope it was only uncovered for the sake of the image and then promptly covered again. 😀
(For those that do not know, EPROMs like the one above will be erased when exposed to UV-light. Daylight contains a bit of UV, so leaving them exposed is bad practice.)

Hey! I have that card, albeit non-XT. It's the only graphics card I have ever bought brand new. Consequently, I still have its (very fancy) box and packaging. I always hated the rattling plastic fan contraption though.

I believe this is the CPU card of an Acer Altos 7000 server (or an other Acer server).
Anonymous Coward has the motherboard too:
VL/EISA SMP Pentium (turbocharged)
If you want to get a same board here is one untested and expensive in Bulgaria:

Thanks for the information! 😀

Anonymous Coward and GL1zdA has already informed me and linked that auction. I might try to make an offer later but I'm not paying that kind of money for an untested board.

A more reasonable priced "Batman" motherboard on it's way to my new temporary home in what I presume is a cardboard box at 2220 Meridian Boulevard, Minden, Nevada. Then Batman will begin a new long journey to Europe lasting weeks if not months but in the end the Pentium 66 will get a new suitable home.

New PC: i9 12900K @5GHz all cores @1.2v. MSI PRO Z690-A. 32GB DDR4 3600 CL14. 3070Ti.
Old PC: Dual Xeon X5690@4.6GHz, EVGA SR-2, 48GB DDR3R@2000MHz, Intel X25-M. GTX 980ti.
Older PC: K6-3+ 400@600MHz, PC-Chips M577, 256MB SDRAM, AWE64, Voodoo Banshee.

Great! I would test that VLB/EISA system but with Socket 5 CPU board that is the most rare...
Batman is great choise. I'm also has bought a Batman. I'm was lucky because my has come from Latvia. 😀
It has Dallas RTC so by default bios lost data. Here is a Dallas RTC hack:

The motherboard I bought is the Dell OEM version of the Batman and I think the Dallas RTC could be socketed on this version. If it's not I will probably solder in a socket and use one of the "new" Dallas chips I ordered from China for $2 each. 😀

I also have a few modified Dallas RTC packages but I prefer to not do the mod while the RTC is soldered to the motherboard.

Got a SoundBlaster 16 CT2230 today. Paid 25 bucks for this and an ISA 3COM NIC (always useful).

This particular model along with OPL3 version of CT2940 (that I also have) seems to get the most praise here on Vogons. CT2940 has amazing sound quality compared to my other OPL3-enabled SoundBlasters but suffers from hanging note bug. CT2230, AFAIK, is almost bug-free, but is a bit noisier.

I plan to make a Super Socket 7 build this weekend that is going to be hooked into a projector and a home stereo system (and will use a Sidewinder joystick for arcades and shooters) and I'm curious how well will this card work.

Got in a shipment of cards today sold for reuse or gold recovery. Most were modems. Even though I really don't need the modems I will most likely keep them for now as from what I remember of the chipsets from back then, none of the ones I got are winmodems.

The good stuff that was included (haven't tested yet) are:

Sound Blaster 16 Value CT2770 (OPL3)

no name ESS1869F based ISA sound card

Nvidia Riva TNT2 M64 16MB AGP video card

ATI Rage 128 AGP video card

Union UTD73 Trident 9680 PCI video card

Cinemaster C 1.2 PCI DVD decoder card - Maybe I will try it out if I put together a really old system.

A strange super low profile ISA IDE controller card with RCA audio out for a CD-ROM drive - Date sticker on back says it was made in December 1994.

Stuff I have on the way:

2x lots of old video cards - one of the lots had everything layed out. Good identifiable cards were:
Geforce 2 Ultra 64MB
Geforce 2 GTS
Geforce 4 Ti 4600 128Mb (I think that is right from the pictures I could find)
Geforce 6800GS

Here's to hoping that everything works or is at least easily repairable.

Advanced Logic ALS100 based with OPL3 copy full height ISA sound card - anybody up for a massive DOS compatible sound card roundup/review? It will be on my own web page but I will link to it in a thread here on VOGONS.

My RTC is soldered. I have made the mod in this state. Not was easy. 😀
