Thing is the future port was not a good idea. you could not put any descent heat sinks on the cpu. Price wizes you were no better off then to buy new board, then you have the problematic querkyness of the system. Neat to mess with today however.

That concept dates back to the ELSA Winner 1000 with ISA and EISA pins.

That's weird to see that, but useful for systems that have either port. My guess is the bracket must be moved from one spot to the other since it might short the board, right?

That's amazing that companies did that. Wish I can get my hands on the card above, but they're hard to come across online.

From online classified ads. Was crazy happy since it was my first purchase. Guy wanted $5 but I gave him $6.

Optical drive, Radeon 9550, and antec

Should be a crappy Antec. It needs to be recapped usually. My smartpower exploded. Literally. At least it took nothing else with it, and I'm still using their PSUs.

A modern day variation is the ESI Juli@ sound card, where it's not the board connector that is doubled, but the sound I/O portion of the card. It can be unplugged from the rest of the card and turned around 180 degrees to switch between jack type.

Recently I bought Ark 2000PV as it seems to be the fastest DOS card. When I found 1000PV on the net I decided to buy it to compare it with 2000PV.
The conclusion is interesting. It is exacly the same fast as 2000PV (in dos games like Doom - tested on Phil's benchmark set). Do you know what is the difference then between 1000PV and 2000PV if the fps results are the same?

Most probably the only difference is for Windows GUI acceleration. In 94/95 Windows was the primary target for manufacturers. And keep in mind that top cards in that time had pretty much the same DOS performance.

Any time I see one of these I just imagine what would happen if you actually attached it between two boards and turned the systems on. 😵

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.

I promised a picture of the gateway, forgetting that my phone is literally a potato. Well, here is the best of 10 pictures I attempted to snap of it. And yes, that is a 2in1 floppy drive!!! 😲

This card doesn't look like it went to manufacture, actually. HISDigital.com doesn't seem to mention it in its unsupported section. Was this a trade show item or is it simply Photoshopped?

Looks like we missed an earlier generation: MSI made a trade show/prototype card they called "Geminium VIII". ATI X800XL Based.

Enough here I might split it off into another "weird and wacky videocards" topic, IDK. *shrug*

Got that Optiplex GX1 tower today. It didn't come with a processor or hard drive but I already have an 800MHz slot 1 on its way. Tore it apart and cleaned it thoroughly. Gonna have to de-yellow the case.

The local computer store, whom I have struck a deal with to sell me older computers they get for recycling, called me about a "Gateway 2000 desktop with a Pentium 90." Expecting just a boring socket 5 machine, I drove over and paid them the $25 they wanted for it. When I saw the model on the front I nearly had a heart attack 😲

It's a socket 4 machine!! It was upgraded by the previous owner from the original Pentium 60 to a 133 MHz Pentium Overdrive, and then LATER an Evergreen "AcceleraPCI" card was added. This is a PCI SBC of some kind that allows you to add a socket 370 Celeron and SODIMM SDRAM and it should take over from the main CPU at boot. Mine has the fastest installed, a 466 MHz Celeron, and 128 MB PC66 SDRAM installed. There's also a Diamond Monster Fusion PCI video card in there, a Voodoo Banshee! Jackpot! 😁

It has a semi clean install of 98SE on the hard drive which I may keep on it as it isn't bloated and only had a few extra programs installed.

I'm also editing a video on testing it out and benching it, so expect that soon 😀
