The socket8 motherboard is here. Tested with CPU and RAM, boots fine. I decided to skip the IDE stuff and go directly for SCSI. Ordered a few drives (some nice 18GB 10K ones) but they'll take a few days to get here.

NT4 or W2K?

Yeah I was leaning towards NT4 also. And dual boot with 98 for LOLs.

Too bad it's a single CPU board only. I have a nice pair of SL22Z waiting for a dual board.

Any advantage to using an AHA29160N over a 2940UW? Probably not in this machine, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

My brother also gave me a 1GHz eMac with OS X 10.4 on it. Works mostly ok, but has a couple weird problems with the screen that are beyond my ability to repair if it can even be repaired (faint diagonal lines going across the screen every inch or so, and the screen just goes to a flickering gray box when it tries to go to sleep).

It could be something as simple as a badly connected cable inside the Mac (although eMacs also have problems with bad caps - sleep issues may be related to that, but should affect more than only the screen).

Was given a couple NOS WYSE keyboards by a friend.

These look great. The first one has actually 16 F-keys as opposed to the standard 12 - I've never seen this layout before.

Well, LVD is a lot less temperamental than single-ended SCSI. Regardless how much the PPro can pull across the bus, you should see some benefit from the 29160, assuming an LVD cable and at least Ultra-2 drives.

Just recieved some memory modules.

- 4 pieces of 64Kx8-15ns (UM61512AK-15)
- 2 pieces of 512kb ram, 1mb in total for PCI vga cards (Trio64/Virge325 and so on)

They were really cheap, so I have waited a long time for them to arive.

😮 what a find! Where did you get it?

I'm not at liberty to say at this time, as I'm still in contact with the individual. Maybe a few years down the road I'll be able to tell the tale. For now, lets just say that this WILL go down in GUS history as one of the most important finds of the century and I'll have photos to prove it.

This thing is so freak'n rare, especially with it being in box MINT and VIRGIN.

I won't be able to top that gravis compatible card. Ever.... Awesomme find.
I can only think of one reason that it is rare.

The last one from the production line, or the very first one.

Could be a sales or review sample for a product that never reached mass-released retail (standard ViperMax has only 512 Kb RAM according to Wikipedia, so for it to come with 1 MB right in a sealed box - updated version that was not actually sold?). In which case you'd be looking at a total production of only a few...

Found a Gateway 2000 Anykey keyboard for less than $30 shipped on eBay. Pounced on it. Has a sticky ESC key and the seller says he can't seem to program keys correctly. Claims everything else works fine. Thinking it just needs the macros to be reset.
