Guys - Why do I keep doing this?? I juuuust got rid of several machines that I didn't want.

But you know how it goes. Saw an ad for a guy selling his son's 3 old beige systems which he doesn't use anymore. $20 for all 3. I didn't need more!

System 1: Compaq Presario 5461, AMD K62-500AXP CPU, 192MB PC100 Ram, onboard video/sound

System 2: Custom Build Slot 1 PIII -600 Mhz, 384MB ram, ATI RagePro 128 video card, Sound Blaster 16 CT4170

System 3: Custom Build "Maximus" Cyrix Mii PR300 in AT case, 256MB ram, 2 floppy drives, 2 CD-rom drives, Full length Sound Blaster AWE32 CT3990.

All 3 post and are in very good condition! No hard drives, so I need to source some appropriate drives and build them out.

Sorry for posting in a hurry - just wanted to share!

Just the soundblasters and Rage pro make that worth it. Good cases and PSUs can easily be traded. Better than the majority of CL posts I see.

I ask myself the same thing. I am in the middle of three restores and I am not sure why. 🤣. My wife wants to know why a laptop keyboard is in the dishwasher with her dishes. I just smile at her.

Those "VIA" stickers on the chipsets look real suspicious... I wonder what chipset that board actually uses.

(Most likely it's a PC Chips board; this is the sort of thing they are infamous for.)

Nice catch, reminds me of the article I read recently about the fake cache chips. "What chipset do you want the board to have?"

zip tied a 65watt e2200 cooler with broken pushpin's to a Pentium D because they were both the only spare dual core and spare lga775 cooler. Seems to push around 52c idle and 64c under load. Not as bad as I was expecting TBH.

Main pc: Asus ROG 17. R9 5900HX, RTX 3070m, 16gb ddr4 3200, 1tb NVME.
Retro PC: Soyo P4S Dragon, 3gb ddr 266, 120gb Maxtor, Geforce Fx 5950 Ultra, SB Live! 5.1

Heh, a litte bit off-topic here, but I was checking my 486 boards and found this 'cache' on one of them. Looks legit!

The 42.x drivers are often cited around here as being a good blend of performance and compatibility.

What motherboard is in your Compaq? I've always found it troublesome to find this information online.
It could be a SiS 530 chipsetted board, which would be nice.

Your P3-600 is a Coppermine.

Very good haul!

As to why you do it? Well, partially because of this maybe:

The pentium 75 is a socket 5 cpu, not a socket 7 one 😉 (even though it will fit and work perfectly in a socket 7)

OAK OTI-067 ISA VGA card with 512KB memory. Should come in handy if I ever manage to get a 386 build going. The tilted capacitor on the bottom needs to be replaced.

Never ever put this crappy OAK card in a 386, you'll slow it down a lot !

This is the only card I know that makes a POST screen to lag (using that card on a pentium 2 computer, the picture is displayed slowly ...)

The only computers it might not slow down will be an XT

Picked up a Tandy 1000SL for $20. need to clean it up before i try booting it. A bit dirty and missing a rubber foot (anyone know a good source for these?) but otherwise ok.

Has another interesting hard card design inside. it's an 8086, so i wonder if the drive is ATA or XTA? hmmm

Overall nice condition. Nice find. As far as the rubber feet, I usually just end up at the hardware store and buy clear rubber domed feet.

I've found an ISA s3 card. This is the first ISA S3 card I've found ! And it looks like it's the first one S3 ever made

BTW the chip is the P86C911. Unfortunately, when I insert it in my 386SX 25, the computer doesn't POST at all ... However, there are many tantalum caps onboard so some of them are probably making a short circuit and thus making the computer unable to POST ... I guess

I wonder how fast (or how slow ?) this card is. My fastest ISA card is a cirrus logic one (CL-GD5426 IIRC) at the moment.
