god damn!
i could not resist!

i entered an old pc shop where they treat old PCs looking for a cheap heatsink.
and i saw this beauty inside a pc case on the floor, and i thought ..nice a REAL GOOD geforce4 card,...gf4 4200
paid 13 bucks and left

when i came back home i was so mistaken..its not a 4200, its a 4600 or a 4800 !!
and there is no way to differenciate them by looking at the card?

geforce.jpg

4800SE which is basically 4400 with 8x AGP support IIRC.

you are right. ti 4800 SE
so many years have passed. the era where ati raped nvidia.
im better with a radeon 9600pro or a 9800pro.

but i like the card, because it is not one of those billion gf4 mx cards, msi makes bling bling hardware.

I just got a box of four video cards in the mail today and I'm quite pleased. A single slot BFG Geforce 9800GT 1GB (some kind of "eco friendly" model that doesn't need a PCI-E power connector... which is pretty cool!), an Nvidia reference design Geforce 3 Ti 200 64MB (passively cooled!) and a Voodoo 3 2000 PCI with 4 5.5ns SGRAM chips and a small silver heatsink... a rather uncommon variant. Oh, and a Radeon HD3450... meh. 🤣

Looking forward to using the Ti 200 though. Should make a fantastic card for a Windows 9x system that also runs late DOS games.

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.

I actually thought that was a FX5600 until I saw the long VGA port. 🤣

MSI used the exact same heatsink for their FX5600 card.

Finally found an 8-bit VGA card at the recycle center for my ITT Xtra XP 286/XT hybrid system. It was less than $5 compared to similar cards on Ebay selling north of $50 to $70. I wont pay those prices. It looks to be in good physical condition, but hoping it works. Also found a bunch of other ISA video and multi I/O cards at the center all in a large box about to get shredded. Lucky save.

Very nice card indeed! I was looking for an 8 bit VGA for some time. Then I got two 8 bit WD Paradise cards last week.

It amazes me these cards, after almost 30 years, still show up at the recycle center. It just shows me to not give up hope on finding early PC hardware in the wild still.

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Rare-vintage-collecti … p-/222749027990?

Someone just bought a Cyrix 5x86-133/4x for 1244 euro. It was not me. This translates to 1468 USD, 1098 GBP, or 1888 CAD. Anyone we know? Considering what else is in the listing, I'm guessing it was a collector who is retiring from the hobby. Alternately, it could be an electronic recycler, but probably not with that nickname. It is interesting to note that the higher bids all occurred within the last 6 seconds.

There were a few other items being sold with it, but nothing else which is particularly difficult to find. I've seen some 3Com ISA 10/100 cards listed for $100 in the past, but the Intel and IBM 10/100 ISA cards are cheap ($20) and work just as well. The computer case is nice for one without an LED display. It would be neat to have a boxed POD83, but not at this price. Given the result here, what do you think a solo Cyrix 5x86-133/4x would fetch on eBay? Alternately, how much do you think this auction would have sold for if it didn't include a Cyrix 5x86-133/4x? Perhaps 200-300. So I estimate the Cyrix 5x86-133/4x may be worth 900-1000 euro in the present market.

Err... no. This was quite a nice collection sold, not just a Cyrix 5x86-133.

These three alone:
* INTEL 486SX to Pentium overdrive 83Mhz
* AMD 486SX to 5x86-P100
* Cyrix/IBM 486DX to cx5x86-133GP

are worth quite a penny. Two of them are even still boxed.

Excuse my ignorance. I wasn't aware that there was something different between a regular POD83 upgrade and an "INTEL 486SX to Pentium overdrive 83Mhz". Same goes for those other two items. What is the difference? Is it an interposer board sandwiched between the socket and the CPU? That is the only thing I can think of, and if so, those interposers aren't worth more than $30 each. And as far as I'm aware, Intel did not make different versions of their POD83 overdrive. This auction sold high because of the Cyrix 5x86-133/4x chip and I maintain my estimate of its current market value.

Money laundering? I don't know, the price seems excessive.

EDIT: ah, nevermind, someone mentioned there were more items in the auction.

Interesting post, but we should be careful with eBay auction discussions maybe?

And I thought even 500€ was a high price. OK, it did include the 5x86-133/4x. So everything above 500€ is ridiculous. But like everything on eBay at least two guys have to battle it out and you get what you get.

I guess high bidders were using snipers (probably most collectors/hoarders use them). So all the bids were at the last seconds. This way there is no price driving. You just set your highest price and don't get nervous at the end.

Requests are also possible... /msg kixs

You seem to be a little bit out of date. These boxed items are nowhere near a price range, that you probably have in mind when you think about splitting the sum in parts.
Pentium overdrives can be found easily on eBay all the time, they are usually between 50-100 USD when in an auction. This sample however has a beat-up box which diminishes the value considerably for a serious collector.

Yeah!

I bought this combo, all installed together and working:
- An Asrock P4i65G mainboard
- Pentium 4 @ 3,4GHz FSB800 1MB L2 cache (with new Aerocool CPU fan&heatsink).
- 2GB RAM DDR 400 (Kingston).
- 160GB IDE HD at 7200 RPM Seagate (with a very pretty fan).

In a first view the capacitors seems to be fine.

All for only 25€!

Now I have the perfect base to install my recent acquisition, a Nvidia GeForce 7950 GT AGP. Till now it is running in my Compaq EVO D310 that has a AGP4X.

Ignore some of the comment and this was a classic example of the sort of thing I'd list "(DID) on the ebay thread....

Like I already mentioned I only ever saw one other Cyrix 5x86-133 for sale and was listed for $1,500AUD(Approx $1,200SD).

Your estimate on the CPU is definitely ball park, with something so rare the concept of money can almost go out the window, buy now $1,500USD+ or wait another 5 years and the winning bid might be $3,000+.....

Philips Brilliance 109P10

19" CRT monitor from 2000 that originally retailed for $1400. Goes up to 1920x1440 but realistically can do 1600x1200 at a decent 85Hz so pretty good. I bought it for €25 😊 Can't wait for it to arrive.

i can relate. I once paid several hundred dollars for a single dual-cpu motherboard. was it worth it? only to me. Why? Because I wanted it, and it was the only one i've seen in 10 years of searching.

I know I have some cyrix processors gathering dust somewhere, you can bet I'm going to be checking for 133mhz ones.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

I used the 107P5 for almost a decade before eventuallymoving to an LCD.

Suffice to say that I was unimpressed by LCDs at the time.

You are looking at possibly the best CRT monitor ever made.

In other news, I got this:

Terrated_512i_Digital_FM801-_AU.jpg

There really isn't all that much info on the FM801 on the internet or on Vogons, so I'll probably try this card out to see how well it fares. My expectation from it is to replace the current Audigy 2 ZS + ESS Solo 1 combination in my Dell GX110 with a single card that can do MS-DOS and Win9x FM and decent Win9x MIDI. It came with the original manual/pamphlet and Driver CD (which contains the YAMAHA S-YXG50 Soft Synth). Not sure how much I will like it, but it will at least give me the chance to try FM801's FM synthesis myself.

Nifty! And boxed too. I have an AOpen AP59S (also SIS 5591.) It's a great chipset even though it can't run at 100Mhz FSB reliably. And I just found your web site. Nice collection!!

Thanks a lot! Not complete yet 🙁 no time... but I'm trying to update photos often.

Another gem from the hoarder. It took me hours just to get the HDD running. In the end I had to swap the (busted) MFM drive and controller card to an IDE one with a BIOS chip. I also installed a Sound Galaxy BX II Extra for some sweet FM tunes. 😊

I can't believe how good the screen is though. No flicker and really nice smooth edges on the fonts.

Nice system, man. Speaking of retro hardware, I purchased a MediaVision Pro Audio (1993) ISA Sound card (brand new, boxed) for $12 shipped today. Can't wait to get it.
