Yeah, that flash process makes me nervous because I have no idea what I'm doing. So not sure what I'll do...

I recently took a chance on a mother board lot on Ebay.

7 motherboards, "some work some have issues". I saw some SD-RAM boards, including one with an ISA slot. Took a chance and bought the lot for $45 shipped.

Included were:

Shuttle AV18V31 s370 board.VIA Apollo Pro 133T chipset. Included a Tuleron 1400 under the heatsink and 3x PC133 CL3. Works fine so far.
Already grabbed a Tualatin P3 1400/512K off of ebay for $10 for it (so much faster), and a Radeon 32MB DDR. Currently in a vintage case was a Sound Blaster Live!.

Soyo P4x400 Dragon Lite. VIA Apollo P4X400. Included a P4 2.8/512/533 and 1x 512MB PC2100 DDR. Works, one bulging cap near AGP slot.

Asrock M266 s478 board. Supports DDR2100 as well as SDRAM. Included a Celery 1.8 and 1x 512MB + 1x 256MB DDR. Works, and that celeron is incredibly slow.

FIC PTM 865 / 848 S775 board. Intel 865G / DDR board. Included Celeron D 3.46Ghz/512/533. Untested

Asrock G41M-LE DDR2 / 775 board. Untested

ECS 945GCT-M3 DDR2 / 775 board. Untested

ECS AM2+ I-Cafe IC780M-A. Tested and has issues. Also, don't care about this board.

Fİnally owning a Socket A board with an ISA slot feels good.

I picked up an ISA HDD/FDD/serial port/parallel port/gameport card so I can hopefully get high density drives working on my Tandy. Also picked up just a serial/parallel/gameport ISA card for another computer. Whoo.

Lots of Socket A love in this thread right now. I've been really happy with the performance of my Shuttle XPC Win98 lunchbox, but less than happy with the amount of heat that comes out the back of it. So I impulse-bought a Geode NX1750 this morning (while lying in bed surfing the big auction site with my laptop - BAD habit which I should probably not do. 😜)

Should be a direct swap-in for the AthlonXP 1700+ that's already in there. I'll update the thread with some before/after temps when it gets here. It's coming from a semi-local town so shipping shouldn't take long.

Got a P233 Notebook from the flea market recently.
In great condition only BIOS battery empty.

Picked up this silver beauty today after buying on eBay for 10 of my local currencies. I was able to figure out that it was a P4 machine on an 865G chipset with Windows 98 drivers, but I couldn't tell what GPU was inside other than knowing it would be AGP. Turned out to be a Radeon 4650 and now I'm doing a small happy-dance 😊

Has Windows 7 Ultimate on there but I think I may make it into an XP lan-party box for gaming with my hypothetical friends. The poor thing has been a neglected media-player for years.

Got myself a CRT for €5.

I now consider those €5 wasted. Every time I turn it on it makes a REALLY loud buzzer sound that actually shakes my table as well as the image. The time it took to take the attached images was more than enough sphincter clenching time for me and it will go to a recycler tomorrow.

That's called degaussing. It's done to demagnetize the tube. All larger monitors do this (unless they are cheap crap).

Looks like it's from the mid-2000's era, when the only CRTs sold were low end build quality for people who couldn't afford LCDs. That said, it looks ok from the pictures.

oh that's normal , even my 14" PVM makes a loud degauss sound: it's how you know you have a good monitor 😁

Oh dear... you know how trying to dig up one hard-to-find component sometimes results in needing to get the whole system - which then still leaves you with that one component missing from one of the two?

My search for an Olivetti M24 keyboard has led to me doing an exchange of a huge Cisco PoE Gb Ethernet switch for a complete Olivetti M240 with keyboard. It will take a while before we can actually do the deal as predictably (variant on Murphy's Law) the other bloke lives at one end of the country and I recently had to choose between work there or at the diametrically opposite end of the country. Guess which I chose...

I'm not even totally sure the M240 has the same non-standard keyboard protocol as the M24, but it also uses a DE9 connector, so quite likely. Worst-case it's not compatible and I have another (still oddball but slightly closer to 5160-normal) XT with CGA monitor. Will post pics when I finally get it here.

I got this "gamer" case:


It has a lot of rust and scratches, but for 2 dollars it was a great find.
I will use for my win 98/xp ultimate build.

I picked up four bad monitors so far this month and I just found out my county has stopped recycling monitors and now just throws them in the landfill. I was a little surprised by that.
