Motorola MDT 9100-386. CRT equipped vehicle computer for radiocommunications. On the inside it's a 25mhz 386SX with 4mb ram onboard, SCSI, dual serial, parallel, 640x480 monochrome VGA, two PCMCIA slots and 4mb of flash memory. 9100 machines show up on ebay a few times a year but it's rare to get the -386 model which is about the best unit you could get in this package and this one had a lower than usual price because it looks like it was sitting outside for quite a while....

IT'S BEAUTIFUL. Seriously, now I want one. And I don't have the means recently. In fact, I am selling some of my gear. 🙁 BUT I WANT ONE REGARDLESS.

Found a PCI PNY Geforce 5200 still sealed

My 486 arrived -- Cyrix 486S-25MHz integrated into a half width baby-AT board, Opti/AD sound card, 1MB Trident video, 4MB RAM.. interesting. Case fascia has been repainted by a previous owner -- I'll probably sand it down because they did a crappy job, and the pegs that hold the face on are all busted off and they tried to hot glue them back. At least they're all there and I can fix it. Anyhow, it booted right up off the 120MB hard drive and everything is fully functional. I was surprised, because I saw it get delivered on my security cam and the box was smashed to hell.

Added to the collection of sub-75MHz Baby-AT machines!

Those cases are amazing! ...and in great shape!

The Vendex Turbo-888-XT arrived!

I wasted no time opening it and getting the battery out.

I will be cleaning the board tonight. Vinegar and 91% Isopropyl alcohol are at the ready. Here are some other photos.

I was not expecting the CGA card. Now I have an excuse to get an MCE2VGA 😀 I have no idea if the system works, hopefully some ISA VGA cards I have will work with it after I clean it up. Some of the traces are iffy. I am crossing my fingers on this one.

It is an ISA to PCMCIA adapter so you can use PCMCIA cards with a desktop.

Just bought this 386 motherboard off ebay today. It was advertised as working, so I am hoping that there will not be much pain in getting it to work.

When I was looking at the ad, I noticed a couple of interesting things about it that caught my eye:
First, it uses SIPPs. The ad said it is maxed out in RAM capacity.
Second, it includes the 387 coprocessor.
Third, and possibly most interestingly, it has a spot for a 287. This is the most interesting thing in my opinion. Why would a 386 motherboard use a 287? Does it use it in addition to the 387? Or is it perhaps just for if you were too cheap to buy a 387?

This is my first desktop 386 machine, so I am pretty excited to add it to my collection. I have a PS/2 P70 and a Compaq SLT 386/20, but I have never owned a desktop 386.

When the first 386 CPUs were released the 387 was not available - so early 386 motherboards had 287 sockets.
