Ah shit. The package arrived and it comes out that front panel is made of plastic. Seller said in the description that this case is made of aluminium. Indeed, but like almost every other case...
I will still use it for some build anyway.

I love Yamaha drives and it will fit for some Pentium/K6 build like a charm. A blessing in disguise!

Bought a Harris CS82C286-20 to replace a very hot running AMD R80286-16, for those that do not know: Harris and Seimens 286 typical 1 to 1.5W where most AMD and Intel are about 3W or more heat dissipation. Should run cooler in my small form desktop case with bad airflow, just because I want it that way :p. Also bought local a HP 8230e (date 2000) and a BSR 6800MX (date 1992) external cdroms. The HP came in original box and drive still wrapped in the pink plastic sleeve, appears never used. Both power up OK and their doors open (tested that far before buying). Will have to play around with it all this weekend... I spent a total $13 on the drives and another $10 on the cpu. Not bad for stumbling on to some old stuff locally..... bet it does not again for a while.....

The Schneider/Amstrad CPC is a pretty decent computer. You can buy or build an RGB Scart cable and connect it up to a TV instead, if you want colour.

As you have the 6128 which comes with a 3" floppy drive, it should be relatively easy to add a Gotek in it's place to load disk images, rather than having to deal with the more obscure 3" disk format. You also have a DIN connector for connecting up a cassette player, so you could use that to load .cdt or .wav files from your PC or phone, or use something like a TZXDuino device. But personally I'd just go with the Gotek (with FlashFloppy or HXC firmware) for faster loading.

With regards to the games - a lot of games released for the system never fully took advantage of it's capabilities, instead often being straight lazy ports from the ZX Spectrum and thus looking and performing terribly with low frame rates. In comparison to other 8-bit systems of the era, the CPC is certainly one of the more capable ones and there are some games where the CPC excels over the C64 for example - though not very often.

Had a very lucky find today... Bought a Roland SCC-1 for under 30 euro's. Was listed as a Roland ISA Expansion card, no model number mentioned in the ad title or description. Only the silkscreen print on the picture gave away the rare find. And I snapped it up right there and then 😁 😁

Thanks. Yes very similar in design to my AcerAcross system but full AT. The yellowing will be easy enough to remove.

So I finally received this beauty today:

MSI MS-9105, aka the Pro266TD Master-LR. Dual Tualatins + AGP + LAN + RAID + DDR RAM (I know...).
It came with two 1133 MHz P3-S Tualatins that were immediately replaced with a pair of SL5XLs (P3-S 1400 MHz, aka "The King").
Now I need a worthy case (preferably Lian Li full aluminium) to accomodate it, and I still have to decide on the other parts for the build. Probably a GF4 Ti4200 that I already have, and a Terratec DMX 6fire 24/96 sound card (or some Audigy model). It's tempting to throw in the Voodoo 5 5500, but that would work best with Win98, which cant't make use of the dual CPUs. A period correct choice would be a GeForce 3, but I don't own one and while the Ti 200 can be had rather cheap, the Ti 500s are pretty expensive.

(Edit: By the way, the only thing that is downright awful about this board is the placement of the capacitors next to the CPU sockets. It significantly narrows down the choice of CPU coolers and makes their installation "adventuresome", to say the least.)

I spotted it as part of these "hey I have this box full of old computer parts, come and pick'em up for free before I take everything to the scrapper" listings on eBay classifieds.
Fortunately the guy was kind enough to send this particular board + CPU so I was able to get it for the cost of shipping, now I just hope it still works 😀

And a few days ago, I was able to find the SB Audigy2 complete with the Live Drive front panel and all cables in good condition for a decent price, which will probably make its way into my Athlon XP3200+ / Radeon 9800 Pro build:

Sucks living on west coast of US, there is never anything good like what you all found ! Too many scalpers that grab and then sell each separate for very high prices.

This is my overall favourite dual native Tualatin board. I think I paired mine with GF4 Ti4400. Do you plan on overclocking it? It doesn't appear to have BIOS adjustments for CPU voltage, so the fastest I could get stable performance is about 1.5 GHz. I think it could do 1.54 GHz stable, but I wanted to take it down a notch.

I haven't decided whether to try overclocking it or not... Over the years I have accumulated a collection of ~15 P3-S CPUs (1.13GHz, 1.26GHz and 1.4GHz models) so chances are pretty good that I have a pair that overlocks well enough, but finding it might be a time-consuming task 😉
