I've never been great with a soldering iron but I guess I'll make a thread about attempting to repair that board when I have it.

I found and bought on eBay some speaker I had 25 years ago with my first Pentium 75 ! So happy to get it, the picture was clean and clearly white... but when I received them, I've been disappointed to see this yellowish color 🙁 Only 5$, but still...

A "magic" bath with Hydrogen peroxide later...

Now I can really enjoy them 😀

Roland MPU-IMC (Microchannel, Boxed). I have this (bare) but boxed ones show up rarely so I felt it was worth picking up imho.

Macintosh speakers.

These actually sound pretty good for there age.

Works great with my iPad too.

If you are into ibm micro channel stuff, i guess thats the card to have. you have to be into it tho cuz its useless without that.

Motherboard obtained. Along with a Geforce 2 MX400 64MB AGP card. Attached pics show board and bad cap. The motherboard looks brand new except for that one bad cap.

If I can replace that capacitor and get the board working I'll likely replace my K6-2 machine with this and a Pentium 3 600.

speaking of microchannel stuff, I picked up this PS/2 56slc with 486slc2 processor upgrade :3c
... the power supply is borkd though, I hope the rest is ok, no cards unfortunately ^^

also my second 8" floppy arrived... it was supposed to be a pristine Mitsubishi M2896-63-02M double sided double density 8" drive including an adapter.

...but shipping was not kind to it :'(

I don't know if the metal bracket hurt or prevented even more damage, the metal bracket got bent and the front panel broke in several places and got stuck underneath, also the pristine cardboard protector got pretty roughed up
in hindsight it was wise that I asked the seller to unplug the adapter from the drive as to reduce the risk of it breaking the connector/PCB at the back by sticking out during shipping.
the front should be fixable, one of the posts holding it to the drive at the back shattered and idk if I found all the pieces... but seeing as it got bumped very hard probably idk if everything is still going to be in alignment, at least it did have the cardboard protector.

that should be an easy fix, it might actually still work with that cap anyways, though I'd be safe and replace it before trying ^^

56 SLC is a lovely machine, especially with the CPU upgrade installed. Built like a tank and takes 16 MB on planar - also fairly spacious for such a compact form factor (me likes : ) Did I mention SCSI onboard - lovely! Congrats!

It was very easy to desolder the cap and I've ordered a new one from digikey.

Mostly I am hoarding. Bought two AMD systems from around 2002. I've taken apart the computers, and this is what I got. I like very much PC fan controller, external drive bay, and the arctic cooler mounted on AGP Radeon 9600 card. MSI motherboard needs recapping (one day 😀 ) Funny thing when I was removing DDR Ram I saw the one with heatsink from sides. I thought: "oh how nice ". When I grabbed in my hand: plastic 😀

Even though Rambus hasn't been relevant since the turn of the millennium, I still associate RAMsinks with RDRAM. It wasn't till I scrolled up a bit and actually read your post that I realized the module in your last picture was DDR. 😜

Nice work! I just switched over to the 12% peroxide bath + UV light method vs developer cream + plastic wrap myself. Works well - nice and uniform restoration vs streaking.

Like imi, the PSU in my 56 (486SLC2 at...50MHz? Yeah, 50MHz) is also borked, all it does is make a high pitched whine if you plug power in. And there's a ton of surface rust inside the case that I'm not really sure how to handle...

If it's just surface rust you can treat it with CLR or a similar rust remover.
