So here is the i486-SX25 that I won a bid on.

Unknown motherboard, but looks to be a Socket 3 LIF of some kind.

Other specs:

i486 SX25
8MB (8x1MB) 72-PIN RAM
Trident TVGA8900D 1MB ISA Graphics
Goldstar Prime 2 ISA Multi I/O Card
Soundblaster AWE64 CT4520 Sound Card
WD 120MB Hard Drive
Mitsumi 8x CD-ROM Drive

The SX25 will be replaced with a Cx486 DX2-80 or DX4-100 once everything arrives. The TVGA8900D will also be replaced with a 90C33-ZZ based video card.

Beautiful looking case.

I've been looking for something like that at the e-waste site, but no dice. Every case I find is in really bad condition.
May be worth it to buy a nice one on ebay.

I found a Sega Power Base Converter for 10 CAN$ at a local pawn shop!!!

Now I have to find my Sega Master System games .

How many other additions to the Genesis do you have? Can you create a full abomination?

🤣, abomination is indeed the right word to describe a fully accessorized Genesis. I have not yet decided to embark on that path . I currently do have a Retron 5 to use with the Power Base Converter . I will be passing on the Sega CD, 32X and even bases Genesis base system for now .

I do have a boxed set of Sega 3D glasses for the Master System and a copy of Zaxxon 3D , but no CRT and no Master System, yet .

Nice.

I am not a VLB amateur myself, but I can appreciate the rarity of a PCI/VLB combo board with socket 5 . Supermicro had only been in business for a few months when this was produced .

I really hope that the onboard barrel battery has not started to leak yet .

As an owner of a complete abomination, albeit without the Power Base Converter thanks to me just straight up having a Snail Maze era Master system, I can tell you it isn't worth the pain of trying to get everything right. I had to recap my Genesis, which has the discrete YMF Chip in it, I still need to figure out where in my Sega CD the audio is disconnected from the stereo-out on the genesis, and my 32X has some color problems that are contained wholly within it, since my RGB out for just the Genny is perfect.

Thanks for the heads up . I will probably stick with the Retron 5 until an affordable FPGA based solution with cartridge ports comes along .

Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop. The seller did well with the packaging, single layer of bubble wrap, laptop loosely thrown into a cardboard box 😀 It's worth mentioning that the package had some extra layers of cardboard over and under the laptop, but none for the sides and corners, which makes no sense 😉

It works, actually I only wanted to use the mainboard, as I have some spare Inspiron 8200 cases, but overall that wasn't a good experience.

Eh, that's a 20 year old chassis, and plastics from that era will turn brittle with aging. Part of it is the laptop rattling about in the package, but some of it can be down to pure luck. My Thinkpad 240 arrived all the way from Japan with nary a scratch despite not being particularly well padded.
It's really too bad there are no known methods to soften/improve aged plastics for longevity. Maybe some kind of hot water submersion treatment?

So what's the plan with the Inspiron 8100 motherboard?

Bought P-II 400 MMC-1 as an upgrade for IBM 380Z. Currently it has 233, previous month I bought 300Mhz version, but haven't managed to install it yet. Now I'll have many options for it 🤣 Will do some comparisons "soon" 🤣

Requests are also possible... /msg kixs

Those retaining clips even break with systems are new if for goodness sake.

I have broken Inspiron 8200 with good case and IPS 1600x1200 screen so i will transplant that motherboard there, I will also install Radeon 9000 card from another Inspiron after i fix it and that will be a really nice late Win 98/early WXP laptop with P3 Tualatin, legacy ports, DOS sound and floppy drive. I already have a similar one, but with lower res screen. And it's also good to have a spare laptop. Inspirons 8100s and similar Latitudes C810s are pretty common, but it's very difficult to get one which has top-spec configuration, usually it's GF2 MX or even ATI Rage, low res screen etc.

Oh yeah - the i8100 is a it of a beast back in the days...I remember that one well - Never had one as I prefer the C600/Inspiron 4000 myself.
They can accept the Quadro4Go 700 from the Inspiron 8200/Precision M50 series assuming that you have the right panel and the BIOS will play ball...but the site that holds the information on how to do it (http://www.bay-wolf.com/geforce4-1.htm) seems to be gone. I wonder if the wayback machine has a copy of it.
The ESS Maestro/Allegro on the machine (also found on the Inspiron 4000) is a bit of a hit-and-miss though. It's not hardware ESFM so some of the FM synthesis sounds a bit off (kinda like an Ensoniq S2000).

Yeah, for that I have Presario 1800 with ESS Solo-1, which is nice for late 90's games (P3 700MHz, ATI Rage Pro 128 16MB /i soldered additional 8MB/). It can even run Windows 3.11 with working display drivers and sound.

Picked up three lots - The smallest being for $21 and that's the one with all the wires. Among it was a Commodore tape drive, a Backpack LPT CDROM (complete) , lots of power adapters (that I have applications for), an LCD picture frame, 2 C64 joysticks, and an old Nokia 3586 cell phone among loads of wires and a printer (went to ewaste already).

NFKq6jIl.jpg

The other two lots - I'd rather not talk about how much I paid (too much 🤣 - maybe)

but I did get a nice Sun Microsystems 19 inch CRT - I'm surprised it's not BNC

St9whH3l.jpg

This one worked after some coaxing:

This one doesn't work - A friend has an identical one with chopped wires (VGA) so maybe I can make one out of two:

Full Dell PC with CRT:

Time to play with these 😁
