What do we have here? A working good IBM PS/2 model 35 SX w/ Intel 386SX-20, 4MB ram, floppy 1.44MB drive and a NEC 105MB HDD. 🤣 It has a brand new Dallas RTC chip.

That machine brings back memories. We had these at our primary school. When we did good the teacher would let us play games. He had:

- Zany Golf
- Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
- Kings Quest 4

Quite slow that machine though. But perfect for the really old Sierra and Lucasarts games 😀

The good with this machine is that it has PS2 mouse and keyboard connectors, so that you can attach it to a KVM without any difficulty.
I don't think I'm gonna use it though, as I have this:
siemens_zps79e5fb91.jpg

It's a Siemens-Nixdorf PCD-3Bsx, with Intel 386SX-25, 4MB ram, onboard VGA and PS/2 mouse header.

I thought that was the same machine at first...

I've got my Celeron M laptops, and will set up a thread for those when I get the charger for them. I'm also going to get a HP Vectra Pentium III system for free from a freebie site tomorrow, so stay tuned for that one!

I know, when I looked at it properly and wasn't totally confused by the plastic pad with two things on top... slightly embarrassing 🤣

Why does it have "NES VERSION" inscribed on it? 😮

The NES was the system that made video games fun again with their strict control over the quality of the games that were released for the system. A major cause of the 83 crash was that there were too many games on the market and a great number of them were of inferior quality. At some point, Nintendo forgot that. Look at the library of the Wii. There is so much crap there that at least half of the games should never have been allowed to see the light of day. The games from Nintendo themselves and the top tier third party publishers are great but there are a lot of publishers the likes of Majesco and a lot of unknowns that released games for the Wii that were terrible.

"In the UK, Italy and Australia which share the PAL A region, two versions of the NES were released; the "Mattel Version" and "NES Version".[70] When the NES was first released in those countries, it was distributed by Mattel and Nintendo decided to use a lockout chip specific to those countries, different from the chip used in other European countries. When Nintendo took over European distribution in 1990, they produced consoles that were then labelled "NES Version"; therefore, the only differences between the two are the text on the front flap and texture on the top/bottom of the casing."

So, I have received my free Pentium III system. I know it powers on, but haven't used it properly yet - am still waiting on my VGA cable.

3mB09dHl.jpg
It is a HP Vectra VLi8 DT.

65yKuZjl.jpg
Fitted with a CD-RW drive.

EImj7R2l.jpg
The back of the machine. It has a 10/100 ethernet card and a modem fitted. The motherboard has built-in audio and video, two PS/2 ports, two USB ports, two serial ports and a parallel port. It did come with both of the keys that operate the case lock, but they weren't pictured here.

s1VMMCdl.jpg
Inside the beast - and it is notably less dusty than when I got it, although it still needs a proper blow-through! Note the Slot 1 Pentium III CPU. All of the caps look good, the power supply is a Delta unit, and I believe it has 196 MB of RAM. No idea about the hard drive yet (I know that drive is not stuck solid, at least) but I'd be surprised if it was more than 10 GB.

mNwgYtll.jpg
It came with this Tiny keyboard and the Microsoft IntelliMouse. The keyboard is impressively weighty, and has 4 programmable hotkeys as well as the multimedia keys that are unusual for a keyboard of its age - even a sleep key!

All in all, assuming it works perfectly, which I think it will, I'm delighted with this freebie.

Late last night / early this morning, I logged into ebay to check a few things and while I was looking over the home screen, the little blue bar came up saying "3 more items listed". So I clicked on it (which I hardly ever do), and boom a Roland CM-64 with a free shipping and BIN price of $99.99. I jumped on it without thinking. Couldn't have been listed for more than a minute before I snatched it up. In fact, its not even listed on completed or sold listings for some reason. But here she is http://www.ebay.com/itm/221424708697

I'll test it as soon as it comes in and see from there. I hope to make it a good backup or replacement for my CM32l and CM32P which was going to be used on a X68000 project. That can leave me with the 32L for DOS use and the 32P can go in storage or used with some music stuff I play with.

With that OEM X-Fi. What I really want to know is if the web drivers from Creative work with it: http://support.creative.com/Products/ProductD … ET=CategoryID:1

Because there are a ton of these cards on eBay.

Sorry for the digression in this topic, but I just wanted to answer this for anyone interested...

I finally got around to installing my X-Fi SB0480 card in my WinXP SP3 Dell XPS 720 system. It was simple. I downloaded SBXF_PCDRV_L11_2_30_0004.exe from the link provided by Mau1wurf1977, then plugged in the card into an empty PCI slot and installed the driver. The install went smooth, I rebooted and I had sound coming from the X-Fi card. I did not test further than just playing a couple of MP3's and just some windows system sounds. It sounded pretty good. My next step is to try and connect it to my front X-Fi I/O panel and do some more testing.

I will be testing to use these in a couple of ASUS P4P800 M/B variants and possibly in a couple of other 8x AGP M/B's.

I am still on the hunt for some Geforce4 cards.

No problem...it is good to know these OEM X-Fi cards work without requiring any special/proprietary Dell drivers/software, especially if they can be had for a good price.

Very nice IBM...do you have the complete case with it? What about an IBM keyboard? That system would make a great early DOS gaming rig!

I have been looking for something like that for a while now. Hard to find at a good price with original keyboard (and monitor 😀 ).

Yes of course, I opened the case just to install the brand new Dallas RTC and the hard disk. It's vga, you can connect any monitor to it, but unfortunately I don't have the original keyboard and mouse.
