Nice buy! The Voodoo 1 is worth it.

Pentium Ds are still more than enough for usage as a office and web browsing machine, and it will probably mean that you won't have to use a radiator in the same room as it... :p Nice buy for that price!

Yep, that's why I said it's a nice foot warmer!

Had one of these as my work machine for years - while not great for software development, it's definitely ok for web and office.

Installed Linux Mint on it this morning, works pretty well. Only drawback is I might be stuck at 1 GB RAM, it's picky about RAM and DDR2 is expensive.

I might go back for one or two more of these, they're too good to pass at this price...

DDR2 is expensive? I can find a 2x512MB DDR2 kit on eBay for £2.39. Unless you've only got two RAM slots, it's dirt cheap - and 2x1GB kits aren't that expensive either.

It only has two slots, and both are occupied by 512MB sticks. It doesn't like the single 1GB stick I have, so buying is a crapshoot. I'll think about it, but if it runs well enough on 1GB, I'll keep it that way.

Diamond%20Megamonster%203D%20II%20SLI-Set.jpg

Picked this up today for about $100 USD. It's the much more rare Diamond Megamonster 3D II SLI Set, it also came with the drivers set and software in the original Diamond foldout packet.

What set this apart from the standard SLI setups of the time is that this was sold specifically as an SLI set, one card has the VGA connector and VGA bypass connector, and the other card (specific for SLI useage) has no VGA connectors at all. 😎

All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a Thousand Enemies, and when they catch you, they will kill you... but first they must catch you. 😁

I'd guess, a tad cynically, that they could save a few cents or dollars by cutting down on some of the components (ie, the second passthrough connector and VGA connector), or maybe sell some perfectly good boards with display output issues.

@keropi

That system looks great. I like your CPU cooler, i approve the GUS and i envy your Roland MPU-401AT. 😎

The Sound Blaster 16 is kinda meh... but since you have a GUS now you could get a Pro in there.

thanks Carlos!
the cpu cooler is an overkill , p200mmx is ultra-cool now...
I like the SB16 , this one can also disable the MPU completely via a jumper... I only have a PRO2 and a 1320C atm , this 2230 just seems a better choice

Yeah i have 2 SB16's, a 1740 and a 2290. The CT1740 is too noisy for my taste, and i guess i never cared much about the CT2290. How is the CT2230 output?

Had a 1740 in the past as well, the 2230 is better (but not perfect) . It doesn't bother me tbh 😀

Very cool find. Something I've always wondered: does the I/O shield on the "slave" card say anything on it? (e.g. does it have the Diamond logo) Or is it just blank?

No, the I/O shield for the slave card doesn't have any thing specific on it.

I have 2 CT1740 SB16's, one with ASP soldered in, one with the socket that doesn't have it, both are quiet as a mouse.

I have an Awe32 CT 2760, that is also very quiet, until you use MIDI\OPL-3 on it, and becomes unusable due to this tunnel echo sounding whoosh it makes, it somehow even transfers it over to its S/PDIF out, which sucks as this is an AWE32 with the Yamaha YMF-262 on it.

It really seems to matter per individual card basis with old creative cards.

Naturally, this individually.
I can believe that I got a bad card, but I will not believe that I have the perfect card.
So that the average card should be as well or better than I do on the tests.
