Are you planning to use the 9800 in a win98 build?

No, it's definitely going to be in a XP/AMD combo as by 2003 all the games supported XP. Thing is, I'm still stuck with Wing Commander 2 as I decided to play through all my games chronologically. It's gonna be a looong time before I hit -03. 😵

edit: And f*** my life. The Nokia screwed me again! The m125 is not a 386DX as it should be, but a 286/12! The evil bastards somehow used the same case, but this case/CPU combination shouldn't even exist. I knew the Microsoft deal was just the tip of the iceberg...

R9 280x Asus Direct CUII - not retro by any means, but it came in bulk and it was SILLY CHEAP! Got it for 100 euro so I couldn't pass on it. The seller had 16 cards, and sold out in a matter of hours. I don't really have a desktop that could take advantage of it and no real use for it since my laptop has a GTX 980m, but it was so cheap 😀 - I did test it in my only modern-ish PC - a 3GHz AM3 Athlon X4 and it works great.

By the way, have you tested this card with WinXp 32-bit? IIRC this is the last AMD card with WinXp support...

Looks like it does have xp 32 drivers but they're quite old (2013). I'll give it a shot anyway. Don't know if the motherboard has XP drivers but I think it does - it has a AMD 760G chipset. Don't know what I could do with it under XP that I couldn't do under win7 x86... older 3D games like Dungeon Keeper II won't work at all on modern hardware (black screen + visible cursor issue) and will crash to desktop on winXP on older rigs. Newer games like Doom 3, Quake 4, Far Cry and alike work fine on modern machines.

Guess it could dual-boot XP for nostalgia.

I have an assortment of parts that can work with it... a Corsair Carbide AIR 240 mATX case, 650W muskin 650XP psu with one 8-pin and one 6-pin PCI-E connectors, the aforementioned Athlon X4 640 cpu + Biostar 760G M2+ (witch is weirdly proficient at overclocking and unlocking) board and 4Gb of 1600Mhz low latency DDR3, a Deepcool Maelstrom 120k AIO water cooler, and I think I might even have a 64GB kingston SSD laying around somewhere...

Thanks to everyone who responded to my query about using the Diamond Monster MIDI daughtercard on an ISA card. For now, I tested it with a TB Montego II Quadzilla. Booted into pure DOS and was able to use the Vortex 2's SB Pro emulation for digital effects and GM for music. I just did some preliminary tests on it, and it works great. I read somewhere on Vogons that the Dream synth "stole" Roland patches. Explains why it sounds so good!

That's pretty hilarious. Well, maybe not so much from your perspective.

I just bought this Sound Blaster AWE32 CT3900. The Price was 44.44 euro or best offer.

I diddnt want to risk someone else snatching it so I payed the 44.44 euro. I see that it says "Best Offer accepted" now so I guess it was set to auto accept every offer higher than some amount but I dont really care, the card is worth the 44 Euro.

Can someone guess if the memory modules are 4MB or 16MB, I would like to think they are 16MB. The sellers description diddnt mention the memory modules at all, it just said "- gebraucht - geprüft, technisch einwandfrei- für weitere Details siehe Fotos". Even my poor German is enough to understand but it dosnt really say much.

286 systems are harder to get than 386 systems so dont be too upset, sell it if you dont want it and buy a 386DX! 😀

Nice buy on the AWE32. I paid about $46 shipped for my CT3900 about a month ago and was very happy with the price. I paid about $15 more for 32MB of memory. I don't know how large those SIMMS are on yours, but even 8MB is an ample amount. My CT3900 and CT2760 are two of my favorite pieces in my collection.

Found a USB zip drive on the "As-is" shelf at the thrift shop last night. ($1) Nothing but the drive itself. I just happen to have the power supply from an old LPT version. (works perfectly!)

A friend gave these to me for free along with a few other miscellaneous boring parts from the same era not really worth photographing (A floppy drive, CD-ROM drive, modem, etc). Dunno if they work, I currently have no systems to try them in.

I wouldn't say so. I've found three 286's this year, but no DX's so far. I got a 386sx last year and even those should be more common than a DX considering the price range. 386DX used to be in a "bad spot" between a cheap 386sx and a more powerful 486. I personally can't remember more than one person who actually had a DX back then as most went straight from 286/386sx to 486. Besides, I'd never pay more than 10-15€ for a DX so I need to keep hunting. 😀

I wish I had the time hunting bargain cheap stuff in the real world but it seems Im working all the time and when Im not Im mending things I bought on Ebay that shouldnt been broken in the first place. I have my laptop with me at work though so I can hunt not as cheap stuff on Ebay while working.

I bought this lot for 35 euro including shipping as I do not own a single 386 motherboard, its a SX33 though. It was sold as tested and working and I want to know how the 1MB Advance Logic ISA video card stacks up anyhow so I found it a nice deal... In my world 386 systems for 10 euro dosnt exist.

The sellers rather bad picture.

Apologies to oerk and everyone else, but I think my memory is failing me in my old age. I couldn't have obtained a VLB motherboard until at least 1992 and maybe 1993. I suspect that the Diamond card is from 1993 or 1994, given that the Trio64 was the successor to the Vision series, correct? The only thing that I am certain about is that I ran a DX-50 on my VLB board. Sorry for all the confusion.

Trio64 seems to be introduced in 1994. I suppose it is one of the latest chips used for VLB cards so it makes sense that it works at 50MHz.
VGAMuseum also has a card with the same name (Diamond Stealth 64 DRAM VLB) with a Vision864 chip, that one is stamped 1994.

Speedsys identifies the Trio64-based Stealth 64 DRAM VLB as a Vision card. Can't remember the number right now. Not sure if that means anything except that this is probably one of the first Trio64s.

Some S3 864s can work at 50MHz, but I am skeptical about Trio64.

My card looks just like the one in this thread, and this member has it running at 50MHz. It's been over 20 years since I ran mine at 50MHz, but it never gave me any problems. I do remember being worried that it was running out of spec. Maybe the quality of the memory makes as much of a difference as the GPU.

Diamond Stealth 64 DRAM VLB + memory upgrade = burning smell!
