I have a Yamaha DBXG50, and also a Roland SCB-55.

I know that the Creative Labs WaveBlaster I & II exist (but I own neither - because I can't find them!)

Please can someone list a few more daughterboards which either work in DOS or in Windows 9x.

Thanks very much.

-Robert.

Good for which person?
For example i like very much Waveblaster I primitive synthesis and OPL4-ML hybrid FM+wavetable drum set synthesis.
Objectively best is Roland, Yamaha, TB, Ensoniq, Korg and Terratec DBs + one Diamond daughterboard which based on 4mb Dream chip.
Yamaha DB50XG, Roland SCB-55 and TB Rio is the best of the best in opinion of the majority of people.

Miditemp DoX-1 (32 Mb Korg soundset) is the best sounding DB I know of. Terratec Wave XTable (16 Mb soundset) is kinda so-so. Sound tests are available if you google some.

I recently picked up a Creative Waveblaster II

Not sure what it sounds like yet. I assume similar to an Awe 32.

Waveblaster II is using the same tech behind AWE32 and AWE64.
Complete with 1MB ROM 😜

It has the GS/MT-32 patches as well in the ROM, so that's why it's 2 MB.

A very questionable statement. Roland/Yamaha > all. 😀 (in terms of instrument balancing for most DOS games at least...)

Well, to my ears that is. DoX-1 is well balanced (unlike Terratec X-Table, for instance), and more bass-heavy than both SCB-55 and DB50XG. From my experience (based on hearing others' test recordings, not owning the DB itself) I can think of no drawbacks for DoX-1, set aside insanely high price.

Well I've listened to some recordings... in Descent I would have never thought it's a Korg synth, sounds straight like a SCB-55 with more bass as you said. Other games can be a bit more experimental, especially with the guitars... seems to be a pretty good DB for gaming purposes nevertheless.

A while ago I started listing all the MIDI DBs I could find on the internet. There were over 90... and I don't believe that's all of them.

At this time a friend of mine is actually making a brand new MIDI DB. I hope to provide more details soon...
