I have this sound card: Roland SCC-1 ISA-based soundcard.
I have these 2 external modules: CM-32L & SC-55.
I don't have a LAPC-I ISA-based soundcard.

I was thinking - use the SCC-1 ISA card with an external CM-32L in an old 486 machine. This would give me both sound canvas music, and old Roland music.

For the modern DOSBox emulator, use a SC-55 and a CM-32L. Would this provide both sound canvas music, and old Roland music? Is this OK/correct? I'm confused as to what is functionally equivalent to what.

SCC-1 = same as SC-55 ?
LAPC-I = same as CM-32L

If that is true, then what do the other Roland CM-xxx external modules do?

Thanks a lot for any info. 😀

You're 100% correct 😀

Where in the world did you get all that wonderful hardware? I have been keeping my eye out for some Sound Canvas stuff, but sometimes I feel like I would have better luck looking for Jimmy Hoffa.

Do you live in North America? If so, maybe there are less of these old Roland units being sold there, than in Europe? Just a guess.

BTW, I have deleted my ebay email search for a LAPC-I. I haven't seen one for about 4 months now, and when they do appear, they always go for way more than I can afford. 🙁

I guess that would be part of it. I used to troll around ebay.uk but most people won't ship to the US.

Alas, I don't possess that kind of "financial fire power", and so I'll have to forego the LAPC-I. It's not too much of a hardship however, as Roland MT-32 external units seem to be quite plentiful on ebay! 😀

I never had or heard an MT-32 or LAPC-I when I was younger, and don't feel like spending alot on one. certainly not above Euro 100,-.
Most money I ever paid for 1 piece of retro harware was Euro 25,- for a DB50XG.
I have a Roland SCB-7 (GM only) and since last week a MPU-401-AT 😀. Each for about Euro 10,- excl. postage. These are no-brainers offcourse.
Ebay germany has nice retro hardware, but more then half of the sellers don't send outside germany. (Although I could pretend Holland is a german province). I saw a simple 1MB daughterboard go for Euro 48,50 last week, seems there is too much demand.. Same on the local ebay-like website since about two years, but I suspect that is just 1 very active buyer...

Thinking about it, I cannot remember buying much through ebay. About three times. It stands in no proportion to the times I looked on ebay.

Thats why I don't like German ebay - prices are insane. I remember bidding for an Alpha PC about 1 year ago. The biding ended at over 200 Euro. One month later I won a better equipped one on Swiss ebay for 50 Euro 😀.
