Just spotted this thing on ebay -

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt … em=150348835262

The seller says there are 2 rows of 20 pins on the back. It's 4x speed, so it could well be IDE, but who knows, perhaps it could be propriatory?

The seller also says there's no disc caddy in it. I've never used a multi-disc contraption before, so I don't know if the absence of a caddy is a complete "show stopper". Can I hunt about for any replacement caddy, or do they have to be special/unique to the drives they were designed for? (I would imagine trying to find a caddy would be very difficult.)

If it is anything like the 4-disc 4X NEC CD-ROM changer (which I still have somewhere), it does not require a caddy.
I could not find any more information on this Torisan drive, although I distinctly remember reading a review of this drive many years ago.

In my experience, the behaviour of these CD-ROM changers is a bit quirky. In Windows, it tends to cycle through all the CD's present in the drive, which can lead to BIG delays. IMHO a CD-ROM changer is a nice idea, but flawed.
