I am using this "G486VPA" mobo -

http://stason.org/TULARC/pc/motherboards/D/DI … EV-0-REV-A.html

Looking at the SIMM CONFIGURATION table on this webpage, I see this row -

16MB (1) 2M x 36 -- (1) 2M x 36 -- None -- None

I am using 2 SIMMs, both are labelled 8MB: 2M x 36 P, and both are double-sided. When I look at the BIOS POST screen, it counts the available memory and only reports 8MB, not the expected 16MB.

Any ideas please people?

Not all motherboards support double-sided SIMMs. In your case, I'd say it doesn't.
