I've never owned an ISA soundcard that wasn't made by Creative Labs, so I don't know much of anything really. I have here infront of me a generic card with opti 82C933 chipset and wave blaster header. It is dated 1998. I didn't see this on the VOGONS list of ISA sound chipsets. Does anyone know what this is? Is SB Pro compatibility decent?

Looks to be PNP, as there are no jumpers to be seen.

*updated*

It appears this card is Shuttle HOT 247

There was no info on it like there was on the previous chips, like the 931. But on second look there is some here:
Web archive: Opti sound chips 1997
I suspect the 933 was just the 931 with some useless 3D effects added, as was the trend at that time.

Trivia: Creative bought Opti around that time.

How is SB Pro compatibility on the OptiSound 931?

The preceding Opti chipsets like the 82C929 are found on the T.B. Tropez classic and all soundcards sold under the 'Miro' brand. From what I read around several vogons topics their SB-Pro compatibility is good, but the digital sound output in SB-Pro mode is poor. But feel free to test wheter that aspect of the opti chipset has improved on the 933. 😉
