In my experience most of the relatively cheap consumer cards from before 1997 are not so great when you go above 1024x768. But since they have so little RAM and can't go high anyway it's not a really big deal. But some of them are exceptionally bad...

I used to have a Stealth 3D 3000, which was the higher priced Virge VX with VRAM and it would get pretty blurry quick too.
