486 motherboards I have come across use and AT psu plug. How far back was this used - right back to ATs? Do 386 boards use AT plugged-psu's? What about 286's? I am guessing they might as the AT was an IBM 286 machine so presumably it's where the psu standard originated. But did the XT use the same PSU standard - ie. would an AT PSU work in an XT?

Don't think the many clones were.

IBM 8088 boards have a differently shaped connector but the pinout is the same. I've replaced the connector with an AT one on such a board.
