Have a Compaq 5320 desktop system; pentium 4 1.5ghz, 512mb ram, Geforce 4200ti, on-board AC97 audio.

Installed WinME + drivers last night, seems to run like a champ.

Will try installing a few games tonight, but I'm pretty optimistic at the moment.

The specs should be well enough for ME 😉

Cheers, another ME user 😁

Btw, have you tweaked your system yet? Or perhaps installed one of the unofficial service packs?
You can get the SP's from MSFN.org

I just installed Win98 SE on a K6-2 500 build that I finished before the case modding commences. That way I can just strip it, mod it, put it back together.

After installing 98SE I installed the unnoficial service pack for 98SE (for the first time ever, I didn't know they even existed until yesterday). The pack didn't add much, and I unchecked most of the options. But it did install tweakui and a few other essentials, and added a windows 2000 looking theme as well as changing a few cosmetics.

Then all I did was add conservative swapfile usage line to the .ini so the 256MB PC-100 gets used more efficiently. Perfectly enough and no doubt as fast as a vanilla k6-2 500 should be.

The point of the service pack isn't to add features but to save you the trouble of hunting down and installing one by one all the important updates and patches for Windows 98SE. It's good to have if you're running 98SE on a PII or newer and/or have more than 256mb RAM.

Also, I haven't tested any of this under ME as I don't have a copy but some things that will add to the usability and appearance of 98SE:

Revolution Pack (Makes everything look pretty and adds a theme engine like what XP has):

I've used the 98SE SP a while back and it worked perfectly alright.
For ME I did all the tweaking manually as no unofficial SP's for ME exist and until recently I didn't own an English version of ME. I tried the ME SP in a virtual PC and it seemed to work fine.
This English ME SP will install on a Dutch ME but it will turn your Dutch ME into a Dutch/English ME freakenstein! 😜

Edit:You can pick what to install and installing only things like tweakui and applying the tweaks shouldn't break the Dutch language thingy on a Dutch ME.

But do tweak ME if you plan to use it, ME does have problems when fresh out of the box but tweaking it should fix virtually all of the specific ME problems.

There is also 98SE2ME but, that's for English Windows only. Atm I still prefer a tweaked ME over a tweaked 98SE though, but that's more a matter of taste really 😉
