Thanks a lot, I'll have a look in my junk box for some of those "8 chips per stick" SIMMs. Also, I do have a POST analyser card, but unfortunately I'm not sure where it is. 😦 I must admit that it would be very useful, in this situation. And also, the idea that the BIOS chip is defective is interesting. Maybe one day, I might get it reprogrammed, to see if that solves this mystery.

I had one of those cards, and it smoked on first use 😒

although I suppose I can't really complain for the price, caveat emptor.
