I currently use a slot and tray loading Pioneer 16x DVD-Rom's. Both are load, supposidely the 106 series is 2db quieter than the 105 but be hard pressed to tell the difference when playing dvd movies.

It looks like you just need a decent music playing cd-rom from your game. Why not look for a CLV drive which will slow rpm down of the disc during music reads. CAV drives (most newer drives) always spin at highest speed no matter how much data is needed. Kenwood put out a CD-ROM up to 72x based on CLV technology that used 7-beams to read the disc. The drawback to the kenwoods are poor readability of burned discs and no DVD's (obviously).

I just bought a 42x Kenwood new off ebay for 19.95, the seller much have a bunch of them. Never owned one before but maybe others can touch base quality of the Kenwood. I think it would be a great fit in a retro-pc.
