Markk, that's excellent news. I never realised that 286 CPUs could get hot.

My replacement HD146818 BIOS chip arrived today. It seemed to work. I could access the BIOS set up area, and afterwards, the BIOS POST memory count did not freeze. However, after another test reboot, the BIOS POST display said "CMOS INOPERATIONAL". Now, I can't get the BIOS POST to display anything. I think the board has damaged the new HD146818 chip. I also think that the battery acid leakage on the board is causing these problems.

BTW, I tried a 2 AA battery holder pack. The BIOS POST display said that the CMOS battery was low. So, I switched to a 3 AA battery holder pack. I also tested the 2 AA battery holder pack on a 386 board, and this 386 board was happy with just 2 AA batteries.

I once was scrapping a 286 and it actually had a little heatsink attached to it's 286 processor. Still have the board laying around somewhere too, but no idea if it still works (or where that tiny heatsink is...not what 286 was originally in there 🤣 ).
