Alright so I was looking in my attic and found alot of my old dos games. I got rid of my old packard bell pc (Stupid Me!) so now i'm trying to build a new old pc.

Here is what I got...

Abit, AB-BX6, Motherboard, Slot1, w/ Pentium II CPU ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem … e=STRK:MEWNX:IT )

Creative Sound Blaster Awe 64 ISA NEW 16 Bit ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem … e=STRK:MEWNX:IT )

3dfx Voodoo 3 3000 16MB AGP 2x PCI Video Graphics Card ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem … e=STRK:MEWNX:IT )

Crucial 128MB 168-pin DIMM SDRAM PC133 ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem … T#ht_500wt_1413 )

Hyundai 128MB 168-pin DIMM SDRAM PC133 ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem … T#ht_500wt_1413 )

First off I'm not sure if my motherboard is rev2 or not. If it is would it say rev2 on the board itself.

Now off to my problems...

I had to replace the cmos battery right from the start.

I get this beep code with the voodoo3 gfx card...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yr0TZuyXo9A

I put in a new BFG Nvidia GFX card that is the only extra agp card I have. and it Will now give me the the post screen however it stalls after it shows the cpu.

I'm not sure if it is doing that because it's a newer gfx card and it's not supported by the motherboard or if it is something else causing this.

Is my voodoo3 card dead? I don't have any other pc to test it in.

I also tried a newer pci ati gfx card and it gives me the good single beep but nothing shows on the screen.

I just want to be able to play all dos games with ease. From crystal caves to duke nukem 3d.

Does anybody have any suggestions.

Thanks,
Rick

award bios beep codes

a new agp card wont work with that board as its agp v1.0

ps: you say
"3dfx Voodoo 3 3000 16MB AGP 2x PCI Video Graphics Card"

you cant have a agp 2x pci card

Wow I can't believe I overlooked that. Thanks. 😀

What gfx card would be best for my motherboard. That hopefully will let me play the old and new dos games?

In my Slot 1 board (same chipset) I used a Geforce 4 MX 440 card without any issues. According to the POST Geforce BIOS it's a AGP 8x card.

That POST does sound odd though. Especially that it shuts down by itself.

Make sure there are no shorts between the case and mainboard and that the PSU is ok.

Ok I pulled the motherboard out laid it on some cardboard and started it up still the same thing. No shorts. The psu is good I pulled it from a working pc.

That possable becuase it support AGP 1x to 8x becuases it a "Universal" cards suport both 3.3v and 1.5v key so it may work with Intel 440BX even know it only support AGP 2× base on AGP 1.0 spec with 3.3v how even not all Intel 440/450 motherbaord work
Your Geforce 4 MX 440 will only work at 2x speed

Maybe not most AGP 4x cards from 1999-2000 before the whole voltage regulation/smartgart. I know a Radeon 7500 will work

Try to use one memory bank..

Why use that to fast pc for those slow dos games?

Pentium 1 was a better deal for it.. or take one supersocket7 on ATX.

~ At least it can do black and white~
