Only if the fix didn't actually work well, or there was a prettier way, then I'd consider it. In this case it did work. Not really any pretty way to do it since you have to carve out the side of the Dallas to expose the pins. I really haven't found any other way mentioned that looks visually appealing.

New old stock is still new old stock. Yeah I knew you can still buy them cheap, but don't like not knowing how long they have been stored, how old the battery is, even if unused. At least using a mounted coin, I know the battery is new AND recently made.
Fair enough. I bought a few last year and they were dated Week 10 2008 so they aren't super old, but I guess its very much luck of the draw.
