I have two S3 Trio 64 cards - one 86C764-P by "Number Nine" and one 86C764X by "Diamond Multimedia". Both have two HY514260B memory chips soldered in place. The former has two empty sockets, while on the latter these hold KM416C256BJ-6 chips.

The latter card has a slight problem - am I likely to have any issues if I simply move the socketed chips to the other card?

Is there a recommended tool/technique for getting the chips out of the sockets?

http://www.biosman.com/remove.htm or
http://bios-repair.co.uk/bios/brefit.htm

& if the transplant gives you issues, just undo it.. 😎

Seems like both types are 256kb 16bit plcc's

Thanks - I'll have a go at moving the chips soon.

It looks like this will upgrade my card from 1MB to a maximum of 2MB. However, I believe the 86C764 chip can support up to 4MB.

Does anyone know whether (PCI) cards with the same chip (i.e. S3 Trio64 without suffix) or an earlier S3 chip exist with more than 2MB memory?

I will have a look in my graphics card collection...

I found a Vision868 with a memory module which might have more then 2MB, though it also has 2 VGA connectors. The card was made in 1995 or so.
Not sure if this is 2-cards-in-one-slot as it also has 2 BIOS's.

Whats missing in your collections?
