I got him to admit it was a fake after he told Keropi it wasn't fake! Here's his response to my comment

"of cause i speed uped this video! 190% speed uped gameplay. gameplay was about 7 minutes. and loading i sped uped in 10 times . loading was about 3-5 minutes"

So I was right. He did speed up the video to make the games look like they were playable on a 386SX! Total faker.

And he's still lying. You cannot start the game with only 4MB RAM. And also without a coprocessor. Even if he has a 387sx and doesn't tell anything about it, the RAM size is also very importand...

it's fake 101% ppl, it does not worth to invest (or better yet: waste) time reproducing this.... or even bother with the uploader 😁

Whatever happened with EGA Quake...

Any DOS coders around? (compiling Quake 1 source)

I never got any programmer interest in the EGA packed pixel remapping. OPL3 music was half implemented - just couldn't get ASS compiled on DJGPP. At least I did the low detail feature mentioned, which is actually quite useful for 486, may help 386 as well.

The speed-up is a lie, too. There is no sudden FPS dip in dynamic light switching. The loading was slowed down at least 300% (you can see the camera noise slowly cycle). It is a Pentium at minimum.

Doom played something like that when I had a 386 DX40. It had to be low detail too.
This Quake video seems true: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbcFvUOGA44&feature=related

It was slow because it was based on the 486. A friend of mine had one with a PCI card (ATI All-in-Wonder) and the whole thing was way slower than my Pentium 100 with a S3 Vision 968. MDK would not even run on it saying that it required FPU.

You can make Quake very playable on a 5x86 133 than that video shows. Lowering memory waitstates is an obvious one which works pretty well, and clocking it to 160mhz (40x4) is a big boost too. An S3 Trio is fine too. That 8.5fps could become a 12fps or in some cases a 16fps. Running with a higher d_mipscale helps as well because it'll quicken the surfmipblock functions by having less pixels to smooth out for the surface cache since 486s have the most trouble with that.

Funny that, I made a comment on that video too about how it's really impossible to do this, and that the video is faked, and I just went back to check and found that the video now has comments disabled. 😀

The best I have posted in a video right now is 2.4 FPS for Quake.
I got this using an am386dx overclocked to 49.15MHz and 0WS memory.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tv9LVhlo7EM

Now I have already broken my record and got 2.5 FPS.
I will discus the details on my next video.
This looks like the limit here.
