I made second iteration of my WIndows 98 demos testing package (234 demos). It would be nice to add in Vogons library, i have to upload it to Dropbox, because its 18.7 GB (in 5 parts), Mega and Google drive free have only free 15 GB now, as far i know Dropbox would probably later stop to working because of too much traffic..

These demos, are not easy to find.. they are often on archive.org but, here download speed sucks and i found couple of them not working, they also need some data on cd which is not part of package, so i created supporting cd images (bin cue format ), some i had to search on some old game magazines cds. I tested 95% of installers from package myself and all working, only for some i had not right HW at the hand for quick testing.

Demos for 95% present for me why thing era was so great, you can quickly test lots of games, before you buy them on Gog, Steam.. or you would try to convert their to packages to Win98 friend ones, or trying to get old physical copy.

Other addition is that in filename / folder name is now list of supported graphics API - SW (=2d,No 3d acc ), OpenGL, GLide and D3D, that is handy some cards, which have problem with some apis, but mainly for emulation as Qemu3Dfx (where working mainly Glide and OpenGL) etc. because of number of games, there are probably some mistakes, which you can report to me through PM etc (i will update spoiler list here). I tested it just by Fraps 1.9D (which not support Glide, not shown counter for Opengl + D3D) + searching of game folders for dlls and game setups and games options, pcgamingwiki, manuals etc.

Hi Ruthan,

Can I get your latest version of this package? I am working on multiple retro projects of my own. I'd like to use your package as a tester. I tried the links and they seem to be broken. I was going to private message you but the feature requires that I get to a certain point on this forum. I compiled QEMU for emulation from the infamous KJLiew fork, I've got my CRT Sony monitor ready and I've multiple real old hardware PCI cards (bunch of different Voodoos, SBs and S3 Virges etc) that I am willing to spend time on to get them working this winter. I've got the whole thing outlined in my mind and it'll take some time to materialize it. Waiting on GPU prices to go down to renew my gaming rig (it'll be a hybrid 😁 ). So hopefully this November I'll start working on it full time just to get the Windows 98 portion going at least. I am still dabbling with QEMU, PCem and DOSBox at the moment both on Windows 10 and Mac OS.

Just noticed the 1700+ files at Vogons Drivers is 73Gb. The older 98 demos package is near 15GB and if the newer one is larger then you are talking about adding ONE package that is over 20% of the entire current driver library size.

I want to keep it on one place.. its not some warez to have multiple download links and location, its easier to manage it in one location.

Because its one package with hundreds Win98 games, such size make sense, its still 1/10 of size of modern Call of Duty... if all Windows 98 drivers would be packaged in file archive they would have similar size.

Yes but think you miss my point about the file size on Vogons, how about this: current 72.84Gb/1721 files = 0.0423Gb or about 42Mb average file size.
Looking at the last 20 files shows the typical file sizes. Adding a 15GB+ file to the mix seems illogical but maybe SquallStrife will consider it, it is his server....

Its logical to post huge 4Gb files to a site that has a typical file size of 42Mb ? OK 🤣. Also "VOGONS Vintage Driver Library" is for drivers as Vetz mentioned a few months ago.
"open zip files and enable to download only part of them.." You can do that at Archive.org if a zip or rar you can select just the files you want inside. You cannot do that at VOGONS Driver Library, you have to download the entire zip or rar.
Well maybe SquallStrife will make a new category since there is not one for Game Demos and your will be the first !

There are PhysX demos/software along with benchmark software already on Vogonsdrivers.It's really up to Squallstrife if he wants a category for gamedemos on there and how the uploads should be processed. Since he is the one paying for storage/transfer I'll believe it'll be an entry for per game, not that you can download a whole 4/15gb file.

I scanned graphics cards manuals I have and posted them on archive.org if anybody is interrested. I don't have the cards anymore.

For anyone that needs the Xbox 360 Game Controller driver for Windows XP, there's a thread where Der_Richter found them on archive.org. I think that it's a good idea to add this into VOGONS driver library just in case because they are no longer on the Microsoft website.

I did it for myself, some else want to use it Vogons ftp, could be the way.. there is already my Dos games demo package for two or three years.

I think that there would have to be a special server to do this.

In Windows it shouldn't be that hard to implement as it already supports "compressed folders" / .zip files. The server would just need to be able to present zipped files as folders to the client.

If the server wasn't set up to automatically do this for all clients, then you would need a special client as well that would send a command to the server to present a selected zip file as a folder.

Agree cyclone3d ! It would take a special server that standard web browser can access and extract individual files in order to be of value. If odd add-ons to a browser or ftp client were needed that could end up a nightmare....
Yes found your Ruthan's DOS PCI Sound Card Test Package of DOS games, it is 758Mb and Uploaded by SquallStrife 09/2019. The only other file that big is one of the PhysX Demo disks and yes there are other smaller Hardware Demo's.
Still Curious why those Win98 demo's cannot be uploaded to Archive org since they can already handle 4Gb files and ability to grab just one or two if needed out of a zip or RAR. Just curious...

Added a couple of manuals to the library...

Archive.org was always for me cumbersome and slow for download and upload, but if someone want to give it a try, its welcomed.. i can upload my packages again temporarily to Dropbox or Mega+Dropbox combo.

I often used archive.org as source for data, but it was slow process and often some archives here were broken, i had to search etc.. i made sure that every demo in my package is really working, for some i had to make some virtual cd images, make some notes how to make it working etc, that is main additional value besides.. possible fast download speed and all things in one package with same directory structure format and notes which 3D Apis are supported .. in comparison try to make such collection on your own..

If you want to put them somewhere I can try to up to archive org but have been having some internet issues myself...

Its 23.5 GB - 325 demos . There some new yet untested demos (~5% or less)- you can recognize them, that i installer or directory name is missing string with graphical API (SW - no 3D accelerator card needed / Direct3D /GL-OpenGL / Glide.. ignored S3 metal - i dont have such card in my testing real/virtual machines), im not sure, but i thing that Archive ok enable add comments to upload.. so if you test some untested demo, you can give us info if working or not (through Archive.org comments, dont spam this thread) - and i can update list bellow..
I prefer one *.exe installers which could be all in one directory, i also tried when game had some double installer / extractor to avoid to multitier (step) double installation - because of speed of old machines, but i did not it for all games, some could make it even better. I list bellow if in name is *.exe is standalone if not its directory with multiple files.. If would be possible to convert them to some self extraction exe 7zip/zip/rar installer - but it would add multitier installation which im trying to avoid..

For testing is great to use PCem, or maybe you can try Dosbox-X Win9x machine with Voodoo 1 support, you can use real retro machines of course.

If you have some really must have demo, which is missing in collection, maybe Horun would be willing to add it to collection too. It would be nice to add some credits in package name that i did majority of work, im big on that so it did not add any such info inside package. It would also make sense to make resplit package to files <4GB chunks to enable director deploy on Win9x FAT32 machines.
And we can of course tune even more, if someone is willing to check Windows NT4 or Windows 2000 compatibility and made some matrix, or add such info directly into filenames/directoryNames..
