First post, by nemesis
Hello again, fellow Vogoners.
I finally acquired the perfect (well almsot perfect) case for my HTPC build. I'm not really sure if you would consider it "retro" or not, but it is to me.
Cpu: AMD 5050e
Heatsink: SILVERSTONE NT01-E
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-US2H
RAM: Gskill 8GB
Optical Drive: Blu-Ray burner/HD-DVD ROM LG
HDD: OCZ 128GB SSD
Case: Kingwin Supernova Black
PSU: ThermalTake 350W fanless
I'll have to upload pictures later, I guess and the rest of the stats in system specs some time.
My goal is to make this computer completely fanless and as silent as possible. Unfortunately, my Optical drive spins at greater volume than I would like to tolerate, does anyone have suggestions on relyable software to control the throttle on the optical drive?
I'm probably going to get a noise reduction kit to help as well.
Also, the CPU seems to hit ~140F (~60C) pretty quickly (within 30 mins of running), which seems to still be functional but I'm concerned about the pace of the rise in temperature so I was hoping someone here has had a little more experience in this area to guide me in either changing out the heatsink to a more reliable one or downclocking the CPU to a more reasonable speed or whatever else.
I'd bother other forums for the info, but you guys have been much more helpful and nicer in the past, so I'd perfer to get advice from you guys/girls.
