About the Obsidian X-24, I had heard this performs more slowly than a pair of separate Voodoo 2 cards. Is that true? I've got two 12MB BlackMagic cards running in SLI, I sold a spare third one on ebay recently. (I figured it was redundant to have, albeit a good collector's item, so I don't think I'll bid on it at the moment as I'm strapped for extra cash.) I also read there were overheating issues, but Quantum3d had their own special drivers for that card.

@Standard Def Steve, I don't have a 5950, but I do have the 5900 XT AGP card! 😀 I love that thing.

These were pretty much standard clocked Voodoo 2s in SLI on a PCI interface. They should perform pretty much on par with two separate Voodoo 2s in SLI. They did have some problems with overheating because of the "sandwich" design so they started producing addon fan/card brackets. The cards should be able to run standard 3dfx reference drivers, but I think the Obsidian specific drivers come with their own custom control panel.

A pair of 2.8v P3 Xeon 900Mhz 2MBs.

Iwill DCA200

Dual Slot-2 Xeon WTX board based on the i840 chipset. It'll run all P2 and P3 Xeons with 100 and 133Mhz FSB. Supports both 2.8v input or 5/12v input Xeons.

This board is probably even more rare than the A-Trend Freeway FW-6400GX/150/WS I scored a couple months back. It also might just be the only non-OEM Slot-2 Xeon board that I've seen with an AGP Pro slot.

Heh, gotta love that shit-colored PCB.

Tyan Tempest i5000PW

Dual Socket 771 workstation board. If for no other reason that it reminds me of the Slot-2 Xeon boards 🤣.

I actually thought that was a Slot 2 board with a pair of CPUs installed before taking a closer look and reading your description. 🤣

Exactly what the title says. What hardware do you dream of having?

Nothing too fancy, I just wish I hadn't ripped apart my Athlon 600 classic for toying around with a goldfinger OC device. The processor was (aamof still is) one of the early batches, that didn't have "Athlon" but "AMD 7th generation processor" written on the outer casing.

For me... it's a toss between these:

Quantum3d Obsidian2 X-24
The consumer version of the Obsidian2 200SB.

Funny, didn't think that my old pic of my X2 would show up here on vogons. 😀
Here's a nicer one:

Ofc SimFusion 6000q or 6500 and Quantum3d AAlchemy 8164 from 1st post and all profi 3D cards 😁 Bigger are better 😉 Want em all, so one day i can benchmark them all. That would be nice, since profi cards are very rare and mostly not documented.
For example having Nec cards would be nice (TE5B on photo) - but they were sold only in japan....

The more I read about hardware, the less systems which impress me remain on my list. Or rather several lists.

The cool computers list:
-Be BeBox
-NeXT NeXTcube
-purple SGI O2
-SUN SPARCstation LX
-DEC VaxStation 2000
I know I can run BeOS and NeXTSTEP on a x86, but both the BeBox and the NeXTcube look extremely good - really nice pieces of industrial design. The same goes for the O2 - I already have 7 SGI stations, but the O2 is one of the icons of SGI. The SPARCstation LX is one of these tiny workstations with muscles - I have two SGI Indies (like this and a DEC Multia (like this), I need the LX to complete the collection. And a small VAX would also be nice.

The non-emulatable OSs list:
-A/UX compatible Mac - a high end one: Macintosh II FX, Quadra 900, Quadra 950.
I really would like to know how UNIX for average people looked like before MacOSX.

The great PCs:
-IBM PS/2 Ultimedia DV M57 486SLC2.
-SGI Visual Workstation 540
Actually none of them is a 100% PC. The PS/2 is not the fastest PS/2 but the most multimedia capable - with sound, CD-ROM and video capture. The SGI is the ultimate workstation - a 4 CPU beast. I don't know about any other 4 CPU x86 workstation.

The cool hardware list:
-Forte VFX-1
-Logitech Cyberman 2 (scroll down)
-Logitech Wingman Gaming Mouse
The VFX-1 was probably the most important VR device of the 90'. And I would like to play descent on the Cyberman 2. The Wingman is of course the hardcore gamer mouse of choice.

Of course it's not even the best PPC BeOS systems, the award goes to the Daystar Genesis MP+, a quad PPC 604e beast:
http://www.everymac.com/systems/daystar/mp_pl … mp932_plus.html

The Hobbit BeBox is on my wish list:
http://www.bebox.nu/images.php?s=images/hobbit

Netwinders are cool StrongArm computers from Corel, I have 2 of them 😀
Info, FAQ and useful files: http://www.netwinder.org/

SGI machines look good, like the Fuel or the Tezro, as do the Sun machines, like the Javastation, and Sunblades series.

The cool looking but never available computer:
Acorn Phoebe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoebe_%28computer%29
400px-Acorn-Phoebe-Case.jpg
The project was cancelled 2 days after a first batch of motherboards were powered on for the first time, a low number of empty cases were sold after the cancellation.

An MT-32 and SC-55 in one box, practically speaking? I want this. A lot.

But it'll have to remain wishlisted, because I can't justify paying $332 for it and CM-500s are said to be among the rarest of Roland equipment relevant to DOS gaming.

1) Any working 486 DX2 / SX2.
2) A cache of Logitech MX518's so I never, ever run out.
3) Another Diamond Mitsubishi SB22 pro 22" CRT, preferably in black.
4) The only PC I feel (besides the 486) that I lack for the collection : A nice Pentium II 450 build, maybe dual CPU board in a huge server tower.
5) lets not get greedy now .... 😉

Last night i had a dream where i found an Adlib gold for real cheap in a thrift store.
However in my dream it was an adlib gold made by Diamond multimedia and i was wondering (in the dream) Why i had never heard about these before.

Might I suggest a Celeron 300A (Mendocino) overclocked to 450MHz so you have cache that runs at full speed.

Sounds good I will look into it. Are they readily available?

Though machines of this era have virtually ceased to exist around these parts, so at this point I'd take almost anything from the XT generation, even a nameless Taiwanese clone.

Tandy 1000 systems still show up semi-frequently, I think they make a good XT stand-in.

Even ones as late as the 1000RL can be clocked down to 4.77MHz, and be toggled between Tandy/CGA and Hercules. AFAIK Hercules mode works with MDA monitors like the 5151.

hello guyz
my wanted list(many are not really difficult to find, just not happy with the price):

mainboards:
mvp3 boards with 2mb cache and 596b southbridge, preferably dfi k6xv3/66
ali5 boards with b1 southbridge(supporting udma66)
i have mostly given up the idea of assembling a 486 rig but if i run into a umc/sis pci 486 board in good condition...

cpu:
cyrix 6x86l, the slowest socket7 cpu as it can run at 1x clock.
idt winchip, slowest clock to clock in socket7, and with mmx support.
amd k6-3+450/500, needless to say the fastest socket7 cpu.
lga775 celeron-d engineer samples(unlocked multiplier).

video cards:
isa tsenglabs et4000 with 1mb(my friend gave me one but with only 512kb)
agp rendition v2200 with 8mb, from hercules or qdi(lenovo)
s3 savage3 sgram, from hercules or asus
ati rage fury(rage128gl) 100mhz clock version
ati rage fury pro(rage128pro) with active cooler version
tnt2ultra that can do agp4x(the gpu supports 4x but most cards are made to only support 2x)
and many nvidia reference cards

sound cards:
IBM music feature card is also on my list(price guaranteed to be insane)
roland scc-1a
creative ct3900, the "best" looooooooooong awe32 with yamaha opl synth and is non-pnp.
