that is why this (rare) version of the card is worth is a little bit more (saves the work of making cable and a holder for the DB)

What is the complete model name of that one Jolaes76?
There is also this one which is fine too.
My card has the "SM718 rev 3.00" label only.
SM718 rev 2.0 still has an unsuitable DB header.
The one d1stortion showed is a better quality model.

What is you model's full name d1stortion?
How is the one I have Jolaes76?
The "brand" cards like the Audician, Waveforce etc. usually pick up less background noise (a bit better shielded) and have better mini amps. The difference is not very big, though. Either way, these cards ARE noisy when you compare them to high-end stuff like a Terratec Maestro, Turtle Beach Tropez etc. But if you do NOT use the amps just the line-out, then you will get satisfactory results and better compatibility than with most high-end ISA cards...

No idea, the chipset is supposedly YMF-718. As you can see "Yamaha-LSI Audio Wave" is written on the card, maybe that helps?
Come to think of it, so far all the cards with good DB headers are YMF-718. I haven't seen a YMF-719 with that so far, yet the 719 is supposed to be only a renamed version of other 7xx ones.
Will see how good the YMF-719 sounds! When the computer arrives I will have a SB16 to compare it with. Don't know the model though.
memory extensions.

thanx a lot! I'll check how many mbs this one has.
This is a 1MB card which can be upgraded to 2MB if you install 2 chips like those that are soldered over there.
With a 486Dx4 75Mhz and the S3 Trio64+ with 1mb of memory it will handle games up to which year?
I'm interested up to Doom, Myst, Blood, etc.
Just look up the requirements for the games you want to play. Doom and Myst should be just fine, for Blood you want something much faster though. That's 1997 after all. That game lags on my PIII 900 at 1024x768...
You'll play all the dooms, duke + blood + shadow warrior in 320x240, the first C&C and red alert ... I'm building my 486s for those too 😉
Descent might be too slow. I played it on a DX2-80, but that was before knowing the 60FPS 3D accelerated games :p

Yeah maybe with a 5x86... SW wanted a Pentium already. None of these games is real 486 territory, they all play better on Pentium and up. Descent 1 on the other hand might be just right, it runs too fast on PII and better 😉

I'm just happy with that! Those are the few "action" games I'm interested in. The rest are graphic adventures! Lucasarts' Sierra's,etc. And for those, the specs are enough I guess.

Actually I might have played SW on a P166mmx, now that you say that.
It's a bit fuzzy ...
Well duke 3D will work for sure 😀

Long live the 486! hehe, Can't wait to get mine- As soon as I get it, I'll share some pictures of the insides!
Ok guys! Really excited here! The 486 arrived this morning! Jumped out of the bed and found this!
Package and Opening
Motherboard: American Trend, model, Unkown.
Any help on identifying the model is welcomed.
(I guess that I can see this on the BIOS or at startup)
Graphic Card: Avance Logic, ALG2032 (To be replaced with an S3 Trio 64V+ 1mb)
NIC, model 3Com 3C905B-TX (I want to add an eeprom with Xtide Bios to this one if possible
Pardon my ignorance, I have no-idea to how you call this. (Board to plug in Mouse, etc.)
Sound Card: Sound Blaster Ct2230. (Didn't expect this one, had no idea of the model until today. Nice surprise! I'll have to check for hanging note with the XR385. Just in case I have a Yamaha card with the YMF719E-S Chipset
HDD, CONNER CFC420A (420mb)
So here it is! Really happy with this guys, really happy. Any comments on it?
I have a lot of work ahead of me. First check that everything works correctly, install drivers, etc.
Also that empty rack on the front of the case is killing me! I'll find something to put over there. Another floppy for the sake of it? Maybe something more useful like a Card Reader?
It's been a long time since I played around with 486's and their hardware to me is completely unknown! So much searching it is to come. And many questions as well!
