How about a video comparison of the anti-aliasing capabilities of various 3D cards?

To start off:
Voodoo5 5500
4x rotated-grid super-sampling
--------
Notes:
Pentium III-S 1050/100 (440BX, Tualatin on Slot T), 256MB RAM

NFS III (Glide)
640x480x16-bit
With and Without 4X AA

3DMark 2000 demo w/ FRAPS
640x480x16-bit

Quake 3 w/ FRAPS
640x480x32-bit

I put it as a download on Mediafire because Youtube re-compresses and streams low-bitrate, and makes it impossible to view without it being badly scaled (causes nasty aliasing), AND I can give you 60 fps video this way.
--------

I'm probably going to look at GeForce 2, 3, Radeon 8500 and Parhelia because they each have interesting modes.

If anyone with a capture card wants to join in, go ahead. Anyone have a Oak Warp 5 to capture? 😉

Kyro 2 (Hercules 3D Prophet 4500 64MB)
4x super-sampling (looks like ordered grid)
3dp_card.jpg
--------
Notes:
Athlon XP 2500+, KT333, 512MB PC2700, NIC, Vortex 2

3DMark 2000 (800x600)
surprisingly smooth with occasional jitter

Hydro Thunder (640x480)
runs rather poorly for some reason. GF2 and Voodoo5 run it much better.

Quake 3 (800x600)
surprisingly smooth

On another note, I've been pulling my hair out over this little project. The Avermedia Game Broadcaster HD is a pain in the ass when it comes to VGA sync. It simply won't sync to the 60Hz output of some cards. It's blurry with some. Some work great though like the Kyro 2.

I'm thinking of buying a different capture card... maybe this StarTech card. Amazon is easy to return junk to.

Videos to compare antialiasing quality? Don't you think just using uncompressed png screenshots lets you do the same? I say this because some of us have really low upload speeds (less than 1mbit...)

Yes and no. I think seeing a video of how well it runs the AA is informative and interesting. There is a temporal aspect to AA as well (how well it works with motion).

Also, for some cards and some AA modes it's necessary to capture post RAMDAC to get correct output. You can't just use framebuffer captures.

I hear you on the download concern though and it is trivial to make screenshots from the original HuffYUV capture. The images above are just that.

I already planned to do such thing myself. You have to take care that the capture cards hits hsync pixel exact. This might also be the problem with the blurry image with the avermedia card with some graphics cards.

What is a good solution to get identical still scenes for image capture? Do you have some for the mentioned games?

For repeatable still captures, I'm thinking game quicksaves. I'm looking through game demos. We need a scene with some transparent textures so the difference between MSAA and SSAA is apparent.
