So, my 486 Motherboard is broken 🙁 It doesn't detect RAM.
I have tried everything, bought different Ram and nothing.
Sometimes it recognizes it, others it doesn't.

I need some advice on buying a 486 motherboard that has PCI.
I've seen some in Ebay, but I'm worried about having fake cache.

Which of these do you think would be a good buy?

- Gigabyte GA-486AM/S Highen
- SCI BAT41P3E E29439897 Motherboard and Intel i486
- 486 Motherboard Lucky Star "LS-486E(B) REV:F
- P54CE 486 Socket 7 Motherboard

The last one is only for Pentium CPUs, not 486. My vote goes to the Gigabyte board.

🤣, the most expensive one! 71 dolars
I'm not sure this one is working 100% though. I contacted the seller and waiting for response.

which 486 board is broken?

i would gladly take a gigabyte or the below because it can take 1mb cache but only runs fpm ram.

Mine Janoz, it's been giving problems wih ram all since day 1.
Sometimes it detects it, others doesn't.
If I push the ram into the rackets a little bit it does indeed detect, but no even the whole of the ram. 160000 tops-

i wish i could have that broken board, it maybe needs a little love..... from me.
do not throw it out. 😀

Not at all, I'm investigating and trying to fix the problem before I buy a new one. This is a good board and it is a pitty to throw it away- I just wished I had some electronics knowledge.

It has an older 1994 UMC chipset with a Phoenix BIOS. Don't count on proper EDO RAM support. There is a PS/2 option in the BIOS, however I do not see a PS/2 header on the board. On the other hand, having a PCI 486 board with a Phoenix certainly adds an interesting twist to any 486 motherboard collection.

That's a good one if the seller will ship to you. I have two of those.

Makes me curious why he is selling it though...

v3.1 with the latest Biostar BIOS. As far as I know, 3.1 was the last PCB revision. 1/2 and 2/3 PCI multipliers. 20-83 MHz FSB option. Socketed RTC. Working PS/2 port. Manual and updated BIOS can be found in the World's Fastest 486 link.

Probably the best PCI 486 motherboard if you don't need 1024K cache. I don't imagine it will sell for cheap.
