A few hours ago I was toying with this old PC (Intel 8086 512 KB RAM CGA) running games and programs, and at some point I was asked to set the date and time and I set the current date, I forgot they dont support 2000´s as a year and after that the message: Real Time Clock failure shows up everytime before booting into DOS, and I cant do anything with it anymore, this system uses 4 AA 1.5 V Battery! instead of the usual battery soldered on board (possibly only used for the clock), but I always booted the system without any batteries and never had problems, inserting batteries in it doesnt make any difference, is it possible to permanently damage a computer this way simply by setting a date to 2K?
