I've just been given some old motherboards, mostly pentium 3 and 4 stuff but one was a socket 7 motherboard.

based on some searches I think it's a Gateway 4000275, I want to put an AMD k6-2 400AFR into this board but it needs a 6X multiplier. The only option on the board that looks like 6 is the 3/2X, is this the same as 6 (2X3=6)?

Thanks in advance!

No, the first two lines refer to the same setting, but it's interpreted differently depending on the CPU:
P54 Pentiums will run at 1.5x (3/2)
P55 Pentiums (and K6-2) will run at 3.5x (7/2)

K6-2 CPUs remap the x2 setting to x6, so for 400 MHz you'll need to set the jumpers to positions 3-5, 2-4.

Thanks for the feedback! That makes more sense to me now.

I got the board to post but it only recognizes the processor as a 'Pentium family 255Mhz'

I guess the board is too old to accept this processor! so far my searches for bios updates have returned nothing. It looks like I'll be swapping CPUs from my other socket 7 boards this weekend to find a combo that works.
It's sounding like a fun weekend already!
