I've noticed that i get strobing dotted lines in games that have pixel shaded water... I'm not sure if it's a hardware or driver issue though? The card is a 128MB Gainward Geforce FX5700 and it's using the latest/last v81.98 drivers for Windows 98se. The card works perfectly fine with all other games and has a Thermaltake copper cooler with Arctic MX-4 applied (so i know it's not overheating).

Any ideas anyone? 😖

It sticks out mostly with Morrowind and the pixel shader tests with 3Dmark (especially the advanced pixel shader test with 3DMark 2001)... I'll test it with others when i get the chance. So far the moving dots only seem to affect pixel shaded water for some reason 😒.

The source may be the "glorious" FX floating point precision. Geforce FX (except 59xx) is always working with s10e5 FP precision, SM 2.0 need at least s16e7.

Morrowond uses D3D8 so uses integer pixel shading. As does 3dmark2001. No this sounds like corruption of some sort but I don't know the cause...

BTW, the image quality problem with D3D9 games isn't specifically FP16 but is a result of NV drivers silently replacing the shader programs in some games with simplified versions in order to be competitive in performance. It was shady business. Geforce FX can do full time FP32 but it is far too slow at it.

Yes, d3d8=PS 1.4 maximum. And fixed point only. So - low FP precision isn't the cause... Filtering, maybe?
