Does anyone know where to get a socket 3, 486 spacer, like the one shown in this thread by AC, My Ultimate VL/EISA 486

I need it to lift the CPU off the socket 3 by about 5 mm. I have borrowed and cropped AC's photo, attached herein.

Is there a technical name for it that might bring the item up in google a bit easier? Empty 486 interposer board?

Thanks!

That's not actually a spacer. It's just a regular LIF socket (like this), which has been re-purposed for use as such.

Unfortunately, even knowing that won't make it any easier to find one... Socket2/Socket3 had mostly moved on to using ZIF sockets, so the LIF variants weren't particularly common in the first place, and since those sockets are specific to the 486 platform, they probably haven't been made in quite a long time.

Trying to cool the die from under the chip to reach 150MHz on an intel DX4 Writeback ? 😁

Haha, no. That would be crazy. But such an idea might help with the IBM 5x86-133 setups.

I was planning on revealing what I'm up to only if it works. What I'm doing is not related to cooling.

You might be able to get a Peltier under the CPU but then you then have to worry about trapped condensation dripping onto the motherboard. 😖
