Hi!

I'm not sure if this might be hardware related or just simply a software/configuration issue. Please move thread to a more fitting place if needed.

The problem I have is that the module files I play in Fasttracker 2 doesn't play right. Missing or wrong sounds. I'm using Win98SE in DOS mode, Fasttracker v2.09 and Gravis Ultrasound MAX rev1.8 with 1024k memory. The odd thing is that games that support GUS work fine, sound in Windows work perfect, Open Cubic Player work fine in DOS as well playing anything. I did record the sound issues, songs played are Space Debris by Captain and Stardust Memories by Jester. See video below. I'm clueless why this happens, and FT2 is supposed to be made for the GUS. Any ideas?

EDIT: Thought I might add that this same issue occurs on my 486DX2-66 computer running DOS 6.22 and Gravis Ultrasound PnP Pro.

Same thing with MS-DOS 6.22 and Fast Tracker 2.08 (the autodetection in 2.09 have been known to cause problems for some people). Many samples seems to play back at the wrong frequency, hence wrong playback speed. And yes, I'm inclined to blame FT2 as well.

WinXP : PIII 1.4GHz, 512MB RAM, 73GB SCSI HDD, Matrox Parhelia, SB Audigy 2.
Win98se : K6-3+ 500MHz, 256MB RAM, 80GB HDD, Matrox Millennium G400 MAX, Voodoo 2, SW1000XG.
DOS6.22 : Intel DX4, 64MB RAM, 1.6GB HDD, Diamond Stealth64 DRAM, GUS 1MB, SB16.

Same thing with my GUS Classic with 1MB. Inclined to blame FT2 here, perhaps it has issues with the extra memory.

I don't think the problem is with the extra memory, I think it's something to do with sample rate of instruments in the mods (and I do mean .mod, .s3m, .xm and all others) in regards to the sample rate set in FT2 and the GUS not actually converting everything to the same sample rate, as opposed to the SB doing so (afaik). Meaning, sometimes samples are triggered at a different sample rate than what the composer intended them to, and they run at a different speed and such. This is just a theory though, just based on what I hear. I'm actually a bit gutted about this, cause one of the main reason for getting a GUS for me, was for the tracking aspect of things. But hey, most tunes seem to run just fine.

The problem was indeed the software it self. I traced down some older versions and now it works! Seems that 2.09 have some issues, while 2.06 and 2.08 play files just fine. Odd thing that the most recent version bugs, but at least I found the problem now after been puzzled about this for a long time!

Thanks for the tip, 2.08 works fine for me too. Apparently 2.09 was a leaked/incomplete version.

Yep, that's correct. 2.09 was never an official release, it leaked and spread like fire in dry grass. It generally works well enough on systems with SB cards. Never got to try it with anything else back in those days, and I knew it wasn't official, so on my GUS system now, I went with 2.08 in the first place.
