Has anyone tried removing a DSP from an earlier SB16 and soldering it onto another SB16 to fix the hanging note bug? Some of the later cards compared to the original CT17* are considerably quieter.

Another question which begs asking.. is the newer DSP responsible for card being quieter? Will replacing the DSP negate this?

I doubt that it is DSP which makes the card noise louder or quieter. I think analog components are responsible for that.

Replacing the filter caps (all the electrolytics tied from any positive voltage to ground) quieted my sb16 a lot. I used Panasonic FM's, and FC's if the FM's wouldn't fit.

Things that may affect noise level are the DAC (signal-to-noise ratio), resistors (thermal noise, ESR from bad capacitors also counts), and PCB layout (EMI pickup).
